1. VATICAN CITY:
The Vatican City is an independent country and enclave within Rome, Italy. Within an area of 0.49 km2 and a population of 825, it is the smallest country in the world. The Vatican became independent from Italy with the Lateran Treaty (1929). The territory of the Vatican is under by Holy See. As governed by the Holy See, the Vatican City State is an absolute elective monarchy with Pope as a Head of the state. Vatican City has no official language; Italian is used on the official website of the country.

2. MONACO:
Officially the Principality of Monaco is an independent country close to the Italian region of Liguria, in Western Europe. It is widely recognized for being one of the most expensive and wealthiest places in the world. With an area of 2.1 km2, it is the second smallest country in the world. Monaco has been governed under a constitutional monarchy since 1911, with the Sovereign Prince of Monaco as head of state. French is the official language of the country.

3. Nauru:
With an area of 21 km2, Nauru is the third smallest country in the world. Officially the Republic of Nauru is an island country and microstate in Oceania, in the Central Pacific. Nauru gained its independence in 1968 and became a member of the Pacific Community (SPC) in 1969. Nauru is a republic with a parliamentary system of government. The president is both head of state and head of government. Nauruan and English are both official languages of the country. Nauru is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Nations, and the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States. Nauru uses the Australian dollar as its currency.

4. TUVALU:
Tuvalu is an island country in the Polynesian subregion of Oceania in the Pacific Ocean. Its islands are situated about midway between Hawaii and Australia. Tuvalu is composed of three reef islands and six atolls. With an area of 26km2, it is the fourth-smallest country in the world. Tuvalu became fully independent on 1 October 1978. Former British colony Tuvalu is a parliamentary democracy and Commonwealth realm with Elizabeth II as Queen of Tuvalu. Tuvalu is a member of the Pacific Community (SPC), the Pacific Islands Forum, the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations. Tuvaluan and English are official languages.

5. SAN MARINO:
Officially the Republic of San Marino is a small state in Southern Europe enclaved by Italy. San Marino covers a land area of just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi) and has 33,562. The government of San Marino is a Unitary assembly independent diarchic directorial republic. The captain's regent is both heads of state and heads of government. San Marino's military forces are among the smallest in the world. National defense is, by arrangement, the responsibility of Italy's armed forces. Italian is the official language of the country.
