Yes, having tea first thing in the morning can disturb your acid and alkaline balance and cause acidity.
Tea is mildly naturally acidic and can trigger acidic reflux. If you are someone who takes tea every morning on an empty stomach may have faced acidity. Because morning tea washes out bacteria from your mouth to your gut and interferes with good bacteria of your body which may disturb the body's metabolism and cause an upset stomach.
However, some herbal tea is acid-free as they are made of different plants and thus help indigestion. But, not all herbal tea is acid friendly. Herbal tea such as spearmint and peppermint may trigger acidic reflux.
2. Constipation
A chemical known as theophylline is found in tea; this chemical has a dehydrating effect and may cause constipation along with the several other ill effects such as-Nausea
Stomach pain
Headache
Trouble sleeping
Restlessness
Nervousness
Shaking
If you are someone, who is having tea the first thing in the morning, then even clean foods and regular exercise together cannot prevent constipation or feeling of uneasiness inside the stomach.
Having tea on an empty stomach may damage the inner surface of the stomach and cause acidity resulting in a burning sensation. Damage to the inner surface can lead to ulcers.
4. Stress
Some people like to have tea to feel relaxed and calm down their stress, but do you know your favorite drink can cause the opposite effect. Yes, having lots of tea can increase the risk of stress.
Tea naturally contains caffeine. Consuming caffeine a lot may cause anxiety and stress. Thus, starting your day with tea would not be the best option for a fresh start. Though one can have green tea on an empty stomach, if you notice some unknown anxiety or restlessness in your daily routine, you should avoid having it on an empty stomach the first thing in the morning.
5. Decrease iron absorption
Tea is rich in compounds known as tannins. The compound tannins can bind to iron in certain foods, obstructing the absorption in your digestive tract.
If you are someone suffering from iron deficiency, tea can exacerbate your condition though the number of tannins may vary depending upon the different teas and their preparation process.
If you are a tea lover with low iron, avoid having tea on an empty stomach. Rather, consider having it between meals with extra precaution. Having tea on a full stomach will make it less dangerous.

The majority of the world’s population loves having tea. Some people need tea as soon as they wake up in the morning, which is a not-so-healthy habit as it does have various ill effects and may results in serious problems if not changed with time.
