Kolkata, "The City of Joy," has a lot to offer. A state having enormous historical background has many amazing places to visit. These places are a mix of emotions. Some are religious, some historical, and some just win our hearts with the design and architecture. 
Here are the 5 top places one should visit in Kolkata.

 

1.Victoria Memorial:
The large marble building in Kolkata was dedicated to the memory of Empress Victoria. It was built between 1906 and 1921. The Memorial has a unique Indo-Saracenic revivalist style design, a mix of British and Mughal elements with Deccani, Egyptian, and Venetian influences.
Not just the Marble building, it has a lot to explore. The lush green gardens, fountains, museum, galleries, and the historical background it holds. The Memorial has 25 galleries with victoria as well as Kolkata galleries. The lakes of Victoria give a serene touch to their beauty." The Memorial is located on Maidan and is one of the most loved places in Kolkata. At present, it is under the "Ministry of Culture."

 

2.Howrah Bridge:
It is not possible to imagine Kolkata and not remembering the famous Howrah Bridge. This suspension type Balanced cantilever is constructed over the Hooghly River of West Bengal. This bridge joins the two cities-Kolkata and Hooghly. In 1964, it was renamed Rabindra Seru after the great Bengali poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It carries the daily traffic of the city. Many movies and books have featured Howrah Bridge in it.No doubt it holds a special place in Kolkata.

 

3.College Street:
College Street, also known as Boi Para, is the largest Book market in the County. This place is famous for its big and small book stores. Regional books and all types of books, including Russian, French, Arabian, etc., are available here. People from all around the state visit here to get their favorite books. This place is known as College Street as it has the presence of many colleges like Presidency University, The Sanskrit College, City College, to name a few. And it's obvious to ride on trams as the tram line is going right on the top of this place. The only City in the country to offer the historical tram ride. Also, it has the famous "Indian Coffee House," which has attracted the city intellectuals for decades. Overall, this place is a must on the bucket list of visiting places in Kolkata.

 

4.Alipore Zoo:
India's oldest zoological garden, The Alipore zoo or the Calcutta zoo, is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Kolkata. Mostly, the crowd gathers here in the winter season. This zoological garden has mammals, Reptiles, Primates, Birds, fishes, and many more. The main attractions are The Royal Bengal tiger, Asiatic lion, African lion,one-horned rhinoceros, emu, Indian elephant, jaguar, and hippopotamus. The zoo has about 108 zoological species. During Christmas and New year's, this place becomes the mad tourist attraction. A place loved by adults to infants to all.

 

5.Belur Math:
The headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Mission is situated on the west bank of the Hooghly river. This place was founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. A place of peace, religious beliefs, and wisdom. This place symbolizes the Unity of all religions. The place has Sri Ramkrishna Temple, Swami Vivekananda temple, Holy Mother's temple, Swami Brahmananda's temple, Ramakrishna Museum, and statue. The temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna Movement. A place to visit for spiritual soundness and inner peace.
