SEMMOZHI POONGA :

Semmoli ponga is also spelled as Semmozhi Poonga, is the botanical garden in Chennai set up jointly by the agricultural and horticulture department of the government of Tamil Nadu. The garden was opened on 24 th of November in the year 2010 by then chief minister m. Karunanidhi. It is the first botanical garden in the city. It encompassed an area of 20 acres and was built at the cost of Rs.80 million. There are more than 500 species of plants grown in the area, in addition to the 80 trees that already existed; some of them are 100 years old.

The beautiful landscaping at the garden has not only made it a delight for the daily morning walkers but has also attracted tourists and especially filmmakers. There is a huge parking lot and a canteen that serves delicious snacks and refreshments for the visitors. In short, it is the must-visit destination in the city.

2) The plants are bought from various parts of the world, so we need to take care of them

SECRETARIAT PARK

The Secretariat Park is a beautiful urban park in the city. Initially an underdeveloped piece of land, the area has now been transformed into a vast green space ideal for morning and evening walks or/and some outdoor time amidst fresh air and lush greenery.

In 2009, the Corporation of Chennai developed the land measuring 18.5 acres into a park at the cost of ₹ 97.5 million. The park was inaugurated on 29 May 2009 by the then chief minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanithi. The park has a grand circular fountain at the center and pedestrian walkways. Other features in the park include a tree court with 18 granite benches laid around the trees, the one-acre sunken court that is below the road level for children, two public rest houses, and grand granite plazas for practicing yoga.

SIVAN PARK :

Situated in KK Nagar, Sivan Park is a relatively smaller park in Chennai. Blooming with vibrant flowers and buzzing with activity, the park is a haven for joggers. The park is generously graced with numerous green trees and is visited by friends and family to spend some time in bounteous nature.

NATESAN PARK

Natesan Park is a park in T.Nagar, Chennai, India. It is located on Venkatanarayana Road. The park covered 4 acres (1.6 hectares) and was opened to the public on 13 September 1950 by the then Minister of Agriculture, A. B. Shetty. It is the only park maintained by the Chennai Corporation that has a separate tennis court for coaching children. There is also a plant propagation center and play zone for children. It is a popular spot for morning walks for the residents.

GUINDY NATIONAL PARK

Guindy National Park is the 8th-smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. It is unique in more ways than one. It has the rarest vegetation type – the tropical dry evergreen vegetation adjacent to Rajbhavan. The only one of its kind in the world, located in a Metropolis. It contains more than 30 species of trees and several century-old gigantic Banyan Trees. Guindy National Park has 400 blackbucks, 2000 spotted deers, 24 jackals, varieties of snakes, over 100 species of birds, and over 60 species of butterflies that attract thousands of visitors to this park irrespective of age group.

Children’s Park within the National Park was created for children’s recreation with shelters for animals.

Snake Park: This is situated adjacent to the Children's Park. It houses an impressive collection of the extraction of venom, is an absorbing activity here. The King Cobra, Python, Turtle, and Monitor Lizard are some of the popular Reptiles that can be seen.
