Natural therapies aim to heal the whole person, not just the symptom. Many people believe that these therapies offer less intrusive ways to treat illness, treat stress-related problems, and have fewer side effects than conventional drugs. Consider whether such treatments are for you.
Anything that reduces stress is not only good for you; it's good for the economy. Stress-related illness accounts for millions of days of annual sick leave.
1. AROMATHERAPY- Involves the use of essential oils from plants and herbs and is often combined with massage. The essential oils used in this therapy were used by ancient civilizations, including Indians, Chinese, Greeks, and Romans, in their cosmetics, perfumes, and drugs. Frequently a component of beauty treatments and regularly employed to treat gynecological and skin problems and muscle injuries. Everyday Aromatherapy at home- a) Place a couple of drops of energizing orange oil in the shower recess before turning on the water. b) Light a vanilla-scented candle to soothe and relax at the end of the day.
2. HERBAlISM- The use of plants and herbs with medicinal properties stimulates the body's natural healing processes. Approximately 80% population of some Asian and African countries use herbal medicine for primary health care. Used to treat: pain, gynecological problems, PMS, stress, sleep disturbance, digestive problems, headaches, acne, and eczema.
3. HOMEOPATHY- A system of healing that involves taking a detailed history of the patient and introducing small amounts of a remedy to exacerbate and then cure a problem. Homeopathic pills are prepared from animal, plant, mineral, and synthetic substances. Used to treat: emotional issues, allergies, and menstrual and menopausal disorders.
4. NATUROPATHY - Combines mainstream health science with a range of natural therapies to protect against common health problems. Naturopathy helps an individual to restore the body's balance and overall well-being. Used to treat: weight problems, addictions, allergies, eczema, and digestive problems (such as irritable bowel syndrome).
5.REFLEXOLOGY- Reflex points in the feet and hands are believed to correspond to various organs in the body. Used to treat: stress, anxiety, asthma, menstrual problems, and digestive problems (such as constipation).
Practitioners of mainstream medicine are increasingly recognizing that complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and herbalism, have much to offer in treating specific ailments. Anecdotal evidence can also be strong, but how can you be sure that they really work? We don't know that the industry is less regulated and researched than conventional medicines. In the end, it's up to you to give natural therapies a go and then decide whether they are working or not.
VITAL SIGNS- 1. Iridology is founded on the idea that the iris contains a 'map' of the body. For example, a dark rim around the iris may indicate inefficient elimination. Those who want early warning of a condition before it gets worse or simply want to monitor their health may also benefit from it.
GENTLE ADJUSTMENT- Osteopathy, and chiropractic have a common aim- to remove aches and pains by adjusting the spine- but different approaches. This is what to expect.
NOTE- Don't stop taking any prescribed medication without consulting your doctor. If you have any worrying symptoms after seeing a natural therapist, talk to your doctor.
