He and his team rob $1.6 million in bearer bonds from an armored car, including right-hand man Chris Shiherlis, enforcers Michael Cheritto and Trejo, and freshly hired hand Waingro. Waingro kills a guard during the heist on the spur of the moment. When a second guard tries to draw his concealed weapon, he is shot and killed. As a result, McCauley orders the remaining guard to be killed so that no witnesses are left.
