I am a killer for thrills, and this experience has surely changed my entire perspective of adventure. I have covered one of the five most dangerous roads valleys in India: the Chandrapur–Chilka road, just outside Maharashtra.
The road has claimed many lives of the locals and brave tourists. From mine workers to school children, the road is a death trap that awaits those who venture there. Let’s go inside to see what this road is all about.
Terrifying Journey Most people believe that this road is made of tarmac. However, the reality is scarier than any horror film.
The road used to be more navigable and easier to travel with trains and vehicles passing by. But today, it is one of the toughest trails of Maharashtra.
The Road to the Most Dangerous Valley
I was only 16 at the time. But I must have been insane because the next six months of my life were a ball of stress. The hardest decision I took was which backpack I would pick.
The road to this valley had no name, not even a sign. This road looked like a strip of graveled blacktop from the outside, but it was an uneven and steep carpet of rock on the inside. The dirt was from mudslides, the rock from avalanches, the mud from rain, and the rain from landslides. We were on this road for 10 hours.
We were tired, scared, and there was no one in front of us. The reality of an empty valley felt like this – an illusion that no one would believe if you told them.
The Most Dangerous Road In The World
Just kidding! The most dangerous road in India is the famous Mumbai-Pune highway. The highway in itself is a death trap, but the stretch from Phaltan to Beed is like a suicide mission. In fact, I personally think this is one of the most dangerous roads in the world; in fact, I believe it to be the number one.
You don’t even have to do it with your family or friends. I will get a “have a go” speech out of my bag. Let’s Do It So what exactly this one bit of road that so many people have given up on is? It is from Phaltan to Beed.
Although the road is not as deadly as some of the roads in the African continent, it is still a challenge to drive. Fact: The road is notoriously steep and pothole-ridden.
Valley of Death
The name of this valley is horrible, to say the least. This valley is situated in the Nagpur District of Maharashtra, India. The Valley is one of the most dangerous roads in India.
This valley is filled with death on both sides of the road. This valley is located about three hours from Nagpur towards Aurangabad. This route is known as Madha Ganga valley. The name comes from the River Madha, which means "Dead" in Marathi.
Why are people scared of this route? This road is filled with nearly a ton of bullock carts. They are driven by illiterate and poor drivers. As you reach the top of the mountains, the harsh terrain ensures there are only two ways out. One is through the valley, and the other is through the nearby small villages.
Conclusion
That was too much for me. I have seen different segments of the national highway network in India and some other stretches of local roads but have never seen anything that outshines this ride's pleasure.
It took me around 2 hours to cover 13 km, and it was worth every single second of my time. My Takeaway: Always drive according to the road conditions and follow safe driving practices on these highways.
Don’t follow the speed limits blindly; no one is there to stop you if you jump a red light. Stay alert and always be aware of your surroundings.

The name is derived from the 16th century Satara saint Budhadev, and there is nothing to be shocked about because it's one of the most dangerous and the most popular valleys in India.
Beauty And Danger Budha Pahar is located on the Karnala Fort, an ancient fort built by Mughals. It's a heavenly valley that attracts many tourists, but it's not the kind of paradise.
The valley is full of craters, and it's not possible to walk around there even on foot. But it's always the perfect opportunity for adventurous and adrenaline junkies who are up for exploring new places in India. What People Actually Call It The name Budha Pahar means "I am the Lord Buddha".
