Science has proved to be both a boon and a curse for our world. Science has helped us to know many new things. But it has also proved to be dangerous in many circumstances, especially when it gets entangled in politics. Science has helped us a lot in making the impossible possible.
1. Project MKUltra - To control the mind, the CIA started a project called MKUltra, which became very infamous. This project started in the 1950s and lasted till 1966. Under the MKUltra project, hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD were specifically given. Those tested had to undergo sleep and sensory deprivation, hypnosis, sexual abuse, and other psychological torture. At the same time, some tests proved to be fatal too. The main goal of this project was the research of chemical weapons and the manufacture of mind-control drugs to counter the Soviet Union.
2. Weaponizing The Plague - The last time the plague broke out, it shook the
whole world. Due to the plague, almost half of the population of Europe was wiped out. During the 13th and 14th centuries, the number of people in the world had decreased by about 100 million. The Soviet Union's biological warfare research program explored how to use the plague as a weapon. In addition to the plague, it was also revealed that the Soviet bioweapons program contained hundreds of tons of anthrax and tons of smallpox.
3. The Large Hadron Supercollider - The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest mechanical and sophisticated scientific instrument built in Switzerland to study particle physics. It was blamed for causing earthquakes and pulling the asteroids towards the earth. On 28 February 2007
at the European Organization for Nuclear Research Center in Geneva, a
giant magnet weighing 1920 tons was used. Simultaneously, it has also been accused of creating a black hole. CERN claimed that the LHC is not dangerous, but some black holes can also be made.
4. The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment - From 1932–1972, the government denied
treatment for syphilis to 399 American and African patients in rural Alabama, and even found penicillin effective against the disease. It was also hidden from the patients that they had syphilis along with the doctors. The U.S. The main goal of the experiment conducted by the Public Health Service was to study the natural progression of syphilis in the absence of treatment. Of the people in this study, 28 died of direct syphilis and 100 from related complications.
5. Kola Superdeep Borehole - The Soviet experiment that began in the 1970s sought to drill as deep into the planet's surface as possible. By 1994, a 12 km deep hole was dug in the Kola
Peninsula of Russia. This excavation provided many important data related to the discovery of ancient micro-plankton fossils from 24 species. Although nothing negative happened at that time, there were concerns that drilling at such depth in the center of the earth could lead to unexpected earthquake effects. It would have been just like opening a planet.
