Football has started as a mob game in the medieval ages when many people struggle to take a ball from an end of a village to the other end. There was no limitation on the number of people participating in the game, and people are free to do anything to win the game. Even physical conflicts were common in the game. 1. A preliminary form of football
It was in the early 19th century, some sets of rules were introduced to the game. One of the most important rules was to limit the game to a specific area instead of the whole village. Then the participants are divided into two groups, and goal posts were decided to each team where they should take the ball. Apart from these few common rules, there was no uniform code for the game, and each organization (mostly schools) that started playing football formulated its own codes of conduct for the players.
2. Starting of Modern-Day Football
In the latter half of the 19th-century football, lovers started thinking about uniform rules and codes of conduct for football. Players representing about a dozen of schools and clubs met at Tavern in London. It was in October of 1863. They agreed to form a Football Association and to formulate common rules and regulations for the game so that inter-club matches will be possible. That was the beginning of modern-day football.
3. The rules decided upon in 1863
After long discussions, the size of the court was decided and the size of the goal post. Secondly, a physical attack on the opponent was barred. If any of the players get indulged in a physical attack, it is agreed to drop him from the team for that match. However, there was no decision taken regarding the total number of people in a team.
4. Evolution of Football and first FA match
In fact, another group of clubs and schools had met about five years before and formulated a set of football rules. However, it failed to gain approval from major players on those days. Thus after 1863, there were two different sets of rules for football, one formulated in 1857 and the other in 1863.
Some initiative has been taken in Cambridge to make uniform laws. After long discussions, in 1877, the dream became a reality, and a common code has come to exist for football. However, before the common rules came to exist, many small clubs have organized inter-club matches in Northern London and the Midlands.
