The Monsterverse will be one of the most popular franchises in 2021. Starting with Godzilla (2014), Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. made films that featured gigantic creatures and monsters that live under the Earth's surface and some that came from space. The latest film released by this franchise is Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and it has been an enormous success. It grossed $442.5 million around the world at the box office, even in this pandemic situation. Although its predecessor (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) was released in 2019, when there was no pandemic, it did not succeed as much as the 2021 installment.
It is pretty clear that this franchise is here for some serious business and that it has got some gigantic plans that you would not want to miss. In this article, you will get to know about the top 5 monsters from the Monsterverse films that will make you watch them over and over again.
1. Godzilla – This is the most famous monster in the whole Monster Universe (Monsterverse), and not just movies, but people also tend to watch and rewatch the trailers that feature this G-man. Titanus Gojira or Godzilla is an ancient alpha-predator in the Monsterverse, and he is the last of his kind. He had a brother known as Daegon, who was not as strong as Godzilla and died when the eggs implanted in his body by the M.U.T.O. Prime hatched, and the offsprings grew into full-sized M.U.T.O.'s (who were killed by Godzilla later in Godzilla (2014) film). Since his first appearance, Godzilla has grown a lot and currently has a height of 394 feet and weighs 164,000 tonnes. Other than his physical power,
he has a ranged, biological weapon known as the Atomic Breath. It is a stream of blue-colored fire caused by the radiation from his dorsal plates that he shoots from his mouth, which can cause severe burns and can immobilize his enemies for a long time. Also, when his radiations are at very high levels, he explodes, destroying any nearby civilizations. He used this ability to go up against an outer space titan known as King Ghidorah. To date, Godzilla remains the king of the monsters and is still undefeated.
2. Kong – Megaprimatus Kong or King Kong belongs to the ancient apes known as the Kongs. He is 295 feet tall at present, but he is estimated to grow up to 337 feet tall by 2024 and weighs close to 100,000 tonnes. In other words, he is a monkey the size of a building. Like any other titan, Kong has immense muscle power and does not possess any gifted abilities like Godzilla, but the species of Kong, being closer to humans, have very high levels of intelligence. The Kong and the Gojira species had an ancient rivalry, as both of them tried to prove themselves better than each other.
Naturally, the Kong's powers were nothing compared to the Gojira's atomic blast. But, using their intelligence, they could kill a Gojira and use one of his dorsal plates to forge a battle-ax, which could defend them against the Gojira's radiation. In 2021, we see Kong using the ax against Godzilla, and though he lost the battle and Godzilla nearly killed him, he still managed to put up a pretty tough competition for the fire-breathing lizard.
3. Gidorah – Kingu Gidora, also labeled as Titanus Gidorah or Ghidorah, was a monster that did not originate on Earth. Ancient tribes enlightened that he was a star that fell from the sky through their cave drawings, depicting the fact that Ghidorah was an alien. Termed as Monster Zero by Monarch (an organization built to study the behavior of the titans), this creature had a height of 521 feet and weighed over 141056 tonnes. He had three heads and gigantic wings. He also had three tails filled with sharp nail-like structures, and his system fed on electricity. Like Godzilla, Ghidorah was able to shoot a gravity beam from his mouth. He caused massive destruction in 2019 by releasing all titans around the world but was later defeated by Godzilla with the assistance of humans and a titan ally known as
MothraM.U.T.O. M.U.T.O. – Massive Unidentified Terrestrial OrganisM.U.T.O... U.T.O. is a parasitic creature whose lifeline is similar to Mothra. Born as a larva and scientifically known as Titanus Jinshin-Mushi, this massive monster species has a maximum height of 300 feet and can weigh up to 60,000 tonnes. The anatomy of these creatures differs in various ways, likeM.U.T.O.s M.U.T.O.s are usually smaller than fM.U.T.O.s M.U.T.O.s, and they also have wings. Their unique abilities inE.M.P.de E.M.P. or Electro-Magnetic Pulse. They can generate this biologically, affecting any nearby electronic systems. These creatures also have various forms. The most potent form is known as aM.U.T.O.e M.U.T.O. Prime. M.U.T.O.s M.U.T.O.s can generate earthquakes using their large and heavy front limbs and roar at a very high frequency that can also destroy the dorsal plates of Godzilla. On defeating any creatureM.U.T.O.s M.U.T.O.s implant their eggs in that creature while it is knocked out. Later the eggs hatch, killing the beast.
5. Mecha - Godzilla – An organization in the Monsterverse, known as Apex Cybernetics, planned on creating a robot titan to defend humankind against Godzilla if he ever turned against humanity. For putting their plan to action, they managed to find ahead from Gidorah's corpse. Finally, they built a robot similar to Godzilla and power by a source from Hollow Earth (a place where all these titans originated) named Mecha. It was a Godzilla killing machine. The only problem was in its controls. Ren-Serizawa controlled the bot's program, and the brain of Ghidorah from the dead skull was used to make the large system stable for control. But, in the end, Gidorah takes complete control of the machine and goes on a rampage against Godzilla and would have killed him with his Photon scream if Kong did not arrive to save him. So, this robot was a reincarnation of King Ghidorah. He also had jets that allowed him to fly and had missiles that could shoot from its shoulder. Later this mechanized beast was killed by Godzilla with the help of Kong.
These are not all; other titans like Mothra (Titanus Mosura), Mother Long-Legs (Arachnida Acidosasa), etc., still counting. The franchise is also in talks all over the internet for their next installment, possibly following the story of Godzilla after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. Other than films, the organization has also published an official announcement for a T.V.imated TV – series known as Skull Islands that should give us a bit more about Kong. So, if you enjoyed reading about these monsters, I am pretty sure that you would also want to see them in live-action as well. I am very excited to figure out the future of the franchise and what they have on their catalog, and much that catalog coincides with the world's wish list.
