Most cities have already begun to experience pre-monsoon showers, and the monsoons are expected to arrive in full force any day now! While the monsoon season provides welcome relief from the heat, it also brings its own set of problems, including viral fever, cough, cold, stomach infections, dengue fever, and malaria. Your immune system is usually weakened due to bacterial or viral infections as a result of the onset of serious reasons. It goes without saying that having a strong immune system and taking precautions will aid in your recovery and keep you safe from infections.
Your immune system is the first and last line of defense, so whether it's prevention, recovery, or healing, it's all that matters. Immune cells make up your immune system, and each one requires the proper amount of energy from the food you eat, the water you drink, and the air you breathe. This is how one keeps a healthy immune system.
Some foods can help you boost your immune system during this season, but they won't make you immune to everything. They are willing to help. Your immune system results from your overall lifestyle, including proper nutrition, adequate water quality and quantity, rest, recovery, sleep, emotional detox, and an active lifestyle to help circulate nutrients to all of your body's trillions of cells.
Simple, readily available, and low-cost foods to include in your diet during the monsoon season.
1. Soups that are hot
Consider monsoons and hot soups. Pumpkin soup, tomato soup, moringa soup, green pea soup, mixed vegetable soup, or even rasam are some options. Because of its high beta carotene and vitamin C content, pumpkin is an excellent immunity booster. Make sure to include garlic and ginger because they are anti-inflammatory, and garlic is an antibiotic and antifungal food. Unless you have an acidity problem, you can add chilies to this dish. Chilies are also very high in vitamin C. A simple chicken broth with spices and vegetables is a fantastic immune-boosting food for non-vegetarians.
2.Oregano
Do you have any idea why? Because of its antifungal properties, which are extremely strong. Because the dampness and moisture provide a perfect and conducive environment for fungal infections to thrive, monsoons pose a risk of infection.
Depending on what you have on hand, you could make oregano tea or season your salad and food with dried/fresh oregano leaves. Even just a few drops of edible oregano essential oil in your water or soup will do the trick. Oregano is also beneficial to the respiratory system, as it aids in the loosening of mucus and phlegm, especially when consumed hot.
3. Seeds and nuts
You can't go wrong with unsalted almonds, walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds, whether it's hot or cold. Make sure you get a few of these in each day. It could be a handful or less, but don't go crazy with them. Maintain a healthy balance between them.
4. Cooked Crucifers
Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and radish are excellent for reducing inflammation, fighting bacterial infections, and boosting immunity. Because of its goitrogenic effect, make sure they are thoroughly cleaned and cooked/steamed/blanched, especially if you have a thyroid condition. You can make soups, stir-fries, soups, and vegetable preparations with them.
5. Spice kit/masala box
During the monsoons, stock up on common kitchen spices, as these will be your go-to's. Turmeric, cumin, methi seeds, ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon, curry leaves, tulsi/basil leaves, and black pepper are all common kitchen spices that can help boost immunity. You can make a concoction or a water infusion with these ingredients or simply incorporate them into your regular cooking.
You can also make a steaming cup of chai without refined sugar by combining all of the ingredients. Replace it with jaggery instead, and you'll notice how much better it tastes. So, if you're craving a cup of chai this monsoon, you know you can indulge. Only add spices and make it the right way!
When combined with the appropriate lifestyle changes, all of the foods listed above form your monsoon sickness prevention strategy! It all boils down to your immune system's performance. You can have an incredibly fit body, a size zero figure, or six-pack abs, but none of that matters unless you have a strong immune system.
