Electric vehicles in India have become more demand and have grown substantially, especially in the two-wheeler segment that has grown almost exponentially. However, the four-wheeler segment is still at a nascent stage in the country, with only a handful of electric cars on sale. The cost of electric technology and a lack of a robust charging network in India are some of the issues stifling the popularity of electric vehicles in the country. But despite all this, it is fair to say that a transition from petrol and diesel-powered cars to EVs has commenced, even if on a low scale. Of course, the growth of electric vehicles can be achieved only if we have budget-friendly options in the country, which the sector sorely lacks. 1. Hyundai Kona Electric

Kona Electric was the first electric SUV to be launched in India, but its sales have been hit ever since the ZS EV, and Nexon EV was launched. Nonetheless, the Koan Electric comes with impressive specs -- a 39.2 kWh battery pack, 134 bhp electric motor making 395 Nm, and a claimed driving range of 452 km/charge. The Kona Electric can be charged overnight when connected to a 15 Ampere standard socket, while fast charging can juice up the battery from zero to 80 percent in under 60 minutes. The Kona Electric comes loaded with provisions like a seven-inch infotainment system, digital instrument panel, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, wireless charger, electric parking brake, paddle shifters (yes), and four driving modes.

2. MG ZS EV
The ZS EV was launched in India last year and received an update earlier this year. The SUV is now propelled by a 44.5 kWh battery that makes 142 bhp, 353 Nm, and offers a 419 km/charge driving range. The SUV can be fully charged in about 16 to 18 hours using a 15 Ampere socket. And in case you want to use a fast-charging facility at an MG dealership, you will be able to top up the battery up to 80 percent in under 50 minutes.
The ZS EV comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, heated ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors), tire pressure monitoring system, rain-sensing wipers, wide touchscreen with i-Smart EV 2.0 connectivity interface, etc.

3. Tata Nexon EV
Tata Nexon EV is currently the best-selling electric car in India. It draws power from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that makes 127 bhp and 245 Nm. The SUV claims to offer a driving range of 312 km/charge. Tata Nexon EV's battery can be replenished by up to 80 percent in just one hour using DC fast charging, while the standard 15 A power outlet can do so in around eight hours.
The Nexon EV comes equipped with provisions like a seven-inch MID (multi-information display), a seven-inch touchscreen system with 35 connectivity features, automatic AC, automatic headlamps, a sunroof, a push-button start, and two driving modes.

4. Mahindra e-Verito
A rival to the Tigor, the e-Verito hasn't been a very successful electric car for private use mainly because of its specs. This sedan's 21.2 kWh lithium-ion battery powers a 41.5 bhp electric motor to develop 91 Nm of peak torque. The Mahindra e-Verito has a top speed of 86 km/h and offers a claimed range of 140 km on a single charge, which is significantly less than its rival.
A conventional charger takes over 11 hours to charge the battery entirely, but the battery can be charged up to 80 percent in 1.5 hours using DC fast charging. This electric sedan comes equipped with a double-din music system, Eco and Boost driving modes, AC with heating, digital instrument panel, hill hold control, etc.

5. Tata Tigor
Tata Tigor recently received a major overhaul; the electric sedan now sports a few design changes and gets more features than before. The most significant change, however, is that the Tigor now uses the company's Ziptron powertrain. The electric sedan comes with a 26 kWh battery and an electric motor with 74 bhp and 170 Nm. This new powertrain allows the Tigor EV to offer ARAI certified range of 306 km/charge.
The Tigor EV now supports DC fast charging that can juice up the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 60 minutes. A conventional 15 ampere AC charger, however, takes 8.5 hours to do the same. 2021 Tata Tigor EV gets features like a seven-inch touchscreen system, iRA connectivity suite for over 30 connected car features, fully digital instrument cluster, automatic AC, multiple driving modes, corner stability control, hill-ascent assist, hill descent control, etc.
