Epidemic diseases can also be caused by primitive living forms like bacteria and viruses.

There's still a space race. The race to be the first across international borders to solve certain space exploration difficulties is getting more intense. It will become debatable who has sovereignty over riches on other planets and satellites. Domination of space may tilt the scales in favour of a bipolar or multipolar Earth due to technological advancements.
Opportunities and priorities.
Even if space exploration has advantages, it is very dubious to spend so much money and energy travelling to other planets. We could utilise that money and intelligence to address other, more pressing issues. Governments might, for example, spend far more to stop global warming, lower crime rates, and discover a treatment for cancer.
