1. Shree 420 (1955)
A desi boy from Allahabad, Raj (Raj Kapoor), travels to the big city, Bombay, on foot to earn a living. He falls in love with the poor but virtuous Vidya (Nargis). Still, soon the wealth of an independent and immoral lifestyle is offered to him by a dishonest businessman, Seth Sonachand Dharmanand. he eventually becomes a self-confident trickster, or "420", who also cheats in card gambling. Vidya tries hard to make Raj a good person but fails.
Meanwhile, Sonachand comes up with a Ponzi scheme to exploit the poor people, under which he promises them permanent homes for just Rs. 100. The project bears fruit when people start accumulating money for the house, even at the cost of other essential things. Vidya's contempt for Raj grows even more. Raj becomes rich but soon learns that he has paid a very high price for it. When Raj learns that Sonachand has no plans to fulfill his promises, he decides to the right the wrong. Raj takes all the bond papers from people's homes and tries to escape from Sonachand's house, only to be caught by Sonachand and his accomplices. In the scuffle, Sonachand shoots Raj, and he faints. When people hear the shooting, they come and see that Raj is almost dead. Sonachand tells the police that Raj was trying to escape by stealing money from his safe, so Sonachand shoots him. At this, the "dead" Raj comes back to life and proves Sonachand's guilt using pure logic. Sonachand and his associates are arrested, while Vidya happily forgives Raj.
2. Mother India (1957)
Radha belongs to a poor farmer family. She is married to Shyam, a farmer, and the two begin their lives in harmony. Shyam's mother borrows money from a local moneylender named Sukhilal. She agrees to give him three-fourths of the agricultural produce in exchange for the money, to which Sukhilal agrees and asks her to sign a document to this effect. She says she does what she does. Not knowing that she is signing the mortgage of her agricultural produce and her property. Unable to bear this unpleasantness, Shyamu disappears, leaving Radha alone to bring up two sons,
Ramu and Birju. While Ramu is trustworthy and devoted to his mother, Birju is arrogant and cunning. Birju is against Sukhilal and wants him to hand over the family land, but Sukhilal will not do so. Birju attacks Sukhilal and, as a result, is ostracized from his village and becomes a dacoit, bent on vengeance for the deceitful Sukhilal, much to his mother and brother's grief and despair. While Radha hopes that his love will set Birju right on her way, Birju, on the other hand, plans something opposite.
3. Naya Daur (1957)
Shankar lives with his mother and sister Manju in a remote village in rural India and drives a horse cart for a living. The primary employer in the area is Maganlal, a kind-hearted businessman. When Maganlal announces that he wants to undertake a religious pilgrimage, his son takes Kundan and wants to cut down on labor and mechanize the business - leading to the loss of jobs. He also introduces a bus from which business is snatched from the horse-drawn drivers. This enrages the community, and they ask Kundan to reconsider, and he flatly refuses - but agrees to take the bus back provided Shankar runs with his horse-drawn carriage. Watch the action Shankar unfold as a divided village and how he prepares to keep his faith in winning this race between man and machine.
4. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)
Manmohan (Kishore Kumar), a mechanic, runs a garage in Bombay with his brothers Brijmohan and Jagmohan. He runs a garage under the name of Mohan Brothers. Brijmohan hates all women, does not allow posters to be put up on the garage walls of his residence, and instructs his brothers not to join. Working late shifts, Manmohan helps a client, Renu, and the two fall in love dramatically. After that, Jagmohan meets Renu's friend Sheela, and the two are attracted to each other. Being unable to cope with the brother's anger, both of them hid this information from him. The two then learn that their brother hides a picture of a woman under his pillow, but he refuses to give them any information when they confront him. Things will change rapidly when Manmohan learns that Renu's father, Kishanchand, has married his daughter to Raja Hardayal Singh's son Prakashchand.
5. Dosti (1964)
Ramu is a brilliant student; after losing his father in an accident, he loses his mother and yields a leg. The landlord soon dumps Ramnath on the outskirts of Bombay after the death of his parents. Ramnath works for a few days as he has no money, but soon he befriends a young man of the same age, the young man's name is Mohan, and he is blind from birth. Two friends roam the streets of Bombay and are soon shown some light to usher in a new era of life.
