The world is becoming obsessed with money and all things material. From the size of your house, the type of car and even where you travel on your holidays, some people try to go one better do their friends and family.
In a search for happiness, many people look for it in other people and not within themselves. Many people feel that things like money, a better job, better relationships..etc. It will make them happy.
In reality, to find true contentment, you must look inside yourself and learn to be your own best friend. That means you have to trust, love, and care for yourself just as you do the people you consider to be close to you.
We have just discussed the factors of happiness. Though one could be infinitely happy by just enjoying nature and family and all the human-made things, millions of people are still unhappy. In the developed countries, there is a very fortunate circumstance of having both God-given and artificial things. Still, the majority of people there are unhappy. In developing countries, where there is a real scarcity of even basic needs for millions, people seem happy. Some people are engaged in difficult tasks and warfare even incarcerated in prisons, and still happy! Millions of people have them. Still, they are unhappy. There are millions of others who don’t have them, yet they are happy!
You would realize that the mere availability and abundance of God-given and human-made things are not enough. There is something else which should be right to be happy. Of course, our mind must have the right attitude towards and capacity to be happy.
For me, these people are quite sad. I know there will be many people who will read this and think I am crazy. I don't care. In it, I write what, in my opinion, are the most important things in life, health and happiness.
The following are steps that you can incorporate into your life to help make your life stronger and happier than ever before!
1: Start raising yourself
Don’t put yourself down. If you don't like something about yourself, try to change it. If you can't change it, accept it. Don't beat yourself up with negative self-talk. When you fill yourself with negative thoughts, you are unlikely to change for the better.
2: Give yourself positive rewards
When you do something you're proud of, give yourself a small reward. Try not to wait for others to praise you because if the compliment does not come, you may get angry. Pat your back; it's a great feeling that can stay with you for a long time.
3: Excuse yourself
I suspect you'll be scolding others over and over for making a mistake, so don't do that to yourself. Give yourself the gift of forgiveness when you make a mistake. After that, try to figure out what lesson you can learn and use it to make better choices next time.
4: Enjoy your successes
Most people trouble themselves by remembering disappointing, traumatic, or embarrassing events that happened many years ago. What if you did the same thing with all your winnings? Try to remember all the victories and achievements you have made, keep that memory with you, and think about it once a week.
Milton in Paradise Lost says,
‘The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.’
Always remember to celebrate your wonderful qualities! You will soon find that the more you love yourself, the more you will be able to give love to others – and the more people will be able to love you!
