Top 4 steps: When Things Go Wrong How To Resolve Ebay Disputes

EBay has a complex and long-winded dispute resolution process. In this email, I will try to plan for each step, so you can see what is involved and how long it takes.

As an example, let’s consider what you would do if you paid for an item but did not receive it from a retailer.

Before you open a dispute: Give the seller a chance to ship an item before you get there and open a dispute. If you are worried about how long an item takes to arrive, the first thing you should do is send a polite email to the seller who says you have not received it and ask if you have sent it. You should also check your email address in eBay options, to make sure the seller can reply to you. As a last resort before opening a dispute, you should try calling the seller on the eBay number they have. You may have to pay a long-term phone bill, but that is better than dragging the auction for months.

Step 1 - Opening Unclaimed Object: You can do this here: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?InrCreateDispute.

All you have to do is enter the item number and say you did not find the item.

Step 2 - eBay contacts the seller: eBay sends the seller an email stating that you did not receive the item. Then we can choose to tell you one of three things: that your payment has not been canceled, that the item is in the mail, or that they will refund your money. The seller may also tell eBay that he or she would like to send you a message.

Step 3 - Talking to the seller: You are trying to find out what happened to the seller, sending messages back and forth. We hope they will agree to refund you for their response, or your item will appear in this post. They will contact the seller on your behalf and mediate as you discuss what to do there.Vendors who are committed to a SquareTrade connection in any dispute can sign up to display the 'SquareTrade seal' at their auction.

Step 4 - Dispute Resolution: After 30 days (or 10 days if the seller did not respond), you have two options to resolve the dispute: whether you are satisfied or not. If you are not satisfied, you can apply under the eBay Purchase Protection Program for up to $ 200.Independent Arbitration for Disputes. If you do not want to enter the eBay process, and especially if the auction was not a high-value item, you can use a third party arbitrator. EBay recommends SquareTrade, at www.squaretrade.com, which provides intermediary on many websites where there are buyers and sellers.  This gives their customers $ 250 fraud, and shows that their ownership is independently verified and therefore what they claim to be.However, when your vendors are not in the best position, you need to be careful to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. There are a few scams to be especially aware of - we will cover it in the next email.
