1. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
A Lady on Fire is a 2019 French historical romantic drama film written and directed by Céline Sciamma, starring Noémie Marant and Adèle Haenel. Set in France in the late 18th century, the film tells an affair between an aristocrat and a painter commissioned to paint her portrait. Portrait of a Lady on Fire was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The film won the Queer Palm at Cannes, becoming the first film directed by a woman to win the award. Sciamma also won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes. The film was theatrically released in France on 18 September 2019. It was nominated for Independent Spirit Awards, Critics' Choice Awards, and Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the top five foreign language films of 2019.

Summerland is a 2020 British drama film written and directed by Jessica Swale. It stars Gemma Arterton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lucas Bond, Dixie Egerickx, Siân Phillips, Penelope Wilton, and Tom Courtenay. The film stars Arterton as a reclusive writer who is forced to bond with a young boy who has been entrusted to her care after the London Blitz. It was released in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2020 by Lionsgate. Alice is a reclusive writer, resigned to a solitary life on the seaside cliffs of Southern England while World War II rages across the channel. When she opens her front door one day to find she's to adopt a young London evacuee named Frank, she's resistant. It's not long, however, before the two realize they have more in common in their pasts than Alice had assumed. Gemma Arterton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Tom Courtenay star in this intensely emotional story of love's endurance in trying times.
3. HALF OF IT
The Half of It is a 2020 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Alice Wu. It stars Leah Lewis, Daniel Diemer, and Alexxis Lemire, with Enrique Murciano, Wolfgang Novogratz, Catherine Curtin, Becky Ann Baker, and Collin Chou. Netflix released the film on May 1, 2020, to positive reviews. The film received the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film is a modern loose retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac in which teenage Ellie Chu begins writing love letters on behalf of the inarticulate Paul Munsky to his crush, Aster Flores. A shy, introverted, Chinese-American, straight-A student finds herself helping the school jock woo the girl they both secretly love. In the process, each teaches the other about the nature of love as they find connections in the most unlikely of places.
4. I CARE A LOT
Care a Lot is a 2020 American black comedy thriller film written and directed by J Blakeson. The film stars Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Chris Messina, Macon Blair, Alicia Witt, Damian Young, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Dianne Wiest. The film follows a con woman who makes a living as a court-appointed guardian, seizing the assets of vulnerable older adults, only for her to get mixed up with a dangerous gangster. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2020. Depending on the region, it was released via streaming on February 19, 2021, through Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The film received positive reviews from critics, with Pike winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her performance.
