I can't emphasize how critical it is for an Internet Marketer to understand what marketing keywords they should use for their products and how much their competitors are willing to pay for those same keywords. This may appear to be a difficult procedure, but it isn't. We'll go over three free websites that all internet marketers can use to find this information in this article.
Let's start with keywords... I'm referring to marketing keywords when I say "keywords." These are the words that would be used to describe your product to potential customers. These are the same words that someone would use to find your products on a search engine.
If you have a business website and don't know which marketing keywords your site is optimized for, you're putting your site at a significant disadvantage. Why? Because you will lose customers. And you can bet that your primary competitors will be aware of your marketing keywords and use them strategically in their websites and advertisements.
When search engine spiders crawl your site, they're looking for text that can be indexed and used to describe your site's content. If your website does not include the keywords people use to find your product, it is unlikely to appear in their searches. As a result, your website must be optimized with the relevant marketing keywords that most people use to find your product.
Another situation where knowing your marketing keywords is critical is when using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising is most commonly done through search engines, and you pay each time someone clicks on your ad (link). After a user enters a keyword into a search engine, your advertisement will appear (which is just a regular search). The search engine compares their submitted keyword(s) to the keywords associated with PPC advertisements. The PPC ads are then returned with the user's search results if they match... Go ahead and search on Google. PPC ads are the ones you see on the right-hand side of the screen.
(Note: The order in which the PPC ads appear is determined by several factors, including the amount you're willing to pay for each click, the search engine you're using, and the ad's Click-Through Rate (CTR).)
Let's take a look at a quick and easy way to find good keywords for your website.
01) Go to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool
Put keywords in the textbox that you think people would type into a search engine if they were looking for your product. Then you'll be shown keywords that are similar and specific to your search. Make a list of the ones you believe would apply to your product.
Click the submit button when you're finished.
02) Go to the Overture Keyword Selector Tool
Then, using the right-arrow button, enter each keyword that you wrote down in step 1. This will allow you to see which keywords in Overture are the most popular. It's worth noting that the most popular keywords aren't always the best. For example, if your website sells guides on how to rebuild a 1957 Chevy, you'll probably want to target '57 Chevy' keywords rather than the more general 'Chevy' keyword. Why? Because you want your ad/website to be seen by the people most likely to buy your product.
The two websites mentioned above should provide you with a fantastic keyword list that you can use to optimize your website. However, if you want to advertise using PPC, you must first determine how much your competitors are willing to pay for your keywords. This is also a simple task.
03) Go to the Overture Bid Tool
Then, in the textbox, type your keywords and hit the search button. The Overture bids for that keyword will be returned. The highest bidders are likely to get the best placements, which means the ads will appear near the top of the first page of the user's search results. The goal is to get as close to the top of the page as your budget will allow you to get the most exposure for your ad.
You've got it... Three fantastic websites that can assist you with your Internet marketing campaigns – and they're all free to use!
