- A dietitian identifies three meals to stay away from in hot weather and offers healthier substitutes. You can maintain your comfort level in the heat by eating foods that cool and hydrate your body. Our bodies put in more effort to stay cool as summer draws near. The maintenance of our body temperature and general health is greatly influenced by our food. While some foods keep us feeling rejuvenated, others, like big, greasy meals, foods high in salt, and sugary drinks, can make us feel uncomfortable and lead to health problems. Eating foods that promote digestion and hydration is crucial. The following meals should be avoided in hot weather, according to Edwina Raj, chief of services, clinical nutrition and dietetics at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru. Foods high in salt: Foods high in salt, such as packaged meals, fast food, and highly processed snacks, can cause electrolyte imbalances and dehydration. Raj cautions that certain foods make it more difficult to stay hydrated because they need more liquids to digest. Meals that are heavy and greasy: "Heavy, greasy meals can create sluggishness, elevate body warmth, and make it difficult to keep active and hydrated," Raj explained. In hot conditions, fried and greasy foods can cause discomfort since they take longer to digest. Sugary drinks: According to Raj, "they create a fast surge in blood sugar followed by a collapse, leading to weariness and drowsiness," even though they could appear refreshing. Fruits and vegetables that are hydrated: Choose fruits and vegetables that are high in water content, like leafy greens, cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges. These supply vital nutrients and aid in cooling the body. Antioxidant
