1. ADHESIVE BANDAGE(Band-Aid)
Invented by - Earle Dickson in year 1920.
The Purpose behind invention- At first, it was invented accidentally by Dickson for his wife Josephine, who frequently cut and burned herself while cooking. The prototype allowed her to dress her wound without the assistance & later, this sparked the invention of Band-Aid to help prevent certain infections.
2. AIR CONDITIONER
Invented by - Willis Haviland Carrier in the year 1902.
The Purpose behind invention- Firstly, it was initially designed to keep a printing company cool so that temperature didn't alter the print and images on paper. Now we all know it is regulated both humidity and temperature.
3. AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINE(ATM)
Invented by - John Shepherd-Barron in 1967.
The Purpose behind invention- ATM first dispensing only for predetermined amounts of money. But later in the 1970s, after magnetic swipe card was introduced and machines were networked to computers, their uses expanded quickly. And now it has become a part of our daily life and is available 24/7.
4. BURGLAR ALARM
Invented by - Edwin Holmes in 1853.
The Purpose behind invention- Reverend Augustus Russel Pope of Somerville patented it, and it is a security alarm system designed to detect intrusion.
5. CALCULATOR
Invented by - Sir Clive Sinclair in 1972.
The Purpose behind invention- To calculate any number fastly, and today we all know that this pocket calculator is essential for us, hence a handy tool.
6. CELL PHONES
Invented by - Motorola in 1983.
The Purpose behind invention- To create a more portable device for communication.
7. DIALYSIS MACHINE
Invented by- Willem Kolff in 1944.
The Purpose behind invention- The machine that can temporarily replace kidney functions in a patient with failing kidneys.
8. ELECTROCARDIOGRAPH
Invented by- Willem Einthoven in 1903.
The Purpose behind invention- Used to monitor and analyze past and current heart activity in an individual.
9. FROZEN FOODS
Invented by - Clarence Birdseye in 1923.
The Purpose behind invention- Birdseye theorized that the food must be frozen quickly to retain its taste and texture. This readymade food is for everyone's convenience that we can pop in the microwave.
10. INTERNET
Invented by - JCR Licklider in 1963.
The Purpose behind the invention was first invented for military purposes, then expanded for communication among scientists. He started ARPANET, which evolved into a global network by 1983.
11. MICROWAVE OVEN
Invented by - Raytheon's Percy Spencer in 1945.
The Purpose behind invention- Spencer first stood in front of a magnetron; he felt the candy bar melting in his pocket. Popcorn kernels exploded in front of the magnetron, and later, Spencer patents a "radar range" that cooks with high-frequency radio waves.
12. ONLINE SHOPPING/E-COMMERCE
Invented by - Michael Aldrich in 1979.
The Purpose behind the invention is to enable online transaction processing between consumers and businesses, later known as e-commerce.
13. PERSONAL COMPUTER
Invented by - John Blankenbaker in 1971.
The Purpose behind invention- These innovations made it cheaper and easier to manufacture computers than ever before. And as a result, this inexpensive "microcomputer" was later known as " personal computer."
14. PHOTOGRAPHY
Invented by - Nicephore Niepce in 1826.
The Purpose behind invention- At first, Niepce captures the view outside his window in Burgandy. he snapped the shot with camera obscura by focussing it onto a pewter plate, with the whole process taking him about 8 hours.
15. RESPIRATOR
Invented by - Philip Drinker and co-creator Louis Agassiz Shaw in 1927.
The Purpose behind invention- To protect workers in Roman mines from red lead oxide dust.
16. SLICED BREAD
Invented by - Otto Frederick Rohwedder in 1928.
The Purpose behind invention- It is the first bread slicer which presliced bread in even pieces.
17. TEFLON
Invented by- Roy Plunkett in 1930.
The Purpose behind invention- Plunkett discovered its non-stick property on metal in 1930 by accident. Now commonly applied to utensils.
18. TELEVISION
Invented by - Philo Taylor in 1927.
The Purpose behind invention- Taylor wanted to make an invention that could capture moving images, transform those into code, and then transfer images in radio waves to various devices.
19. THE ATMOSPHERIC ENGINE
Invented by - Thomas Newcomen in 1712 and later by Francis Thompson in 1791.
The Purpose behind invention- This atmospheric engine solved the energy crisis of its day and heralded the start of the industrial revolution.
20. TV REMOTE CONTROL
Invented by - Zenith's Eugene Polley in 1950.
The Purpose behind invention- The first wireless remote, designed by Polley, was a flashlight. When Zenith discovered that direct sunlight could change channels on "remote-receptive" TVs, the company switched to infrared.
21. VACUUM CLEANER
Invented by - Hubert Cecil Booth in 1901.
The Purpose behind invention- The monstrous equipment was kept outside the building while hoses were extended indoors and didn't look like today's vacuums.
22. VIDEO GAMES
Invented by - Nolan Bushnell in 1972.
The Purpose behind invention- Bushnell designed the first video game, PONG. In 1978- Space Invader.
23. WASHING MACHINE
Invented by - Alva Fisher in 1908.
The Purpose behind invention- Fisher invented the first electric washing machine, "Thor," and was introduced by Hurley Machine Company.
24. WiFi(IEEE 802.11)
Invented by - Hedy Lamarr in 1988.
The Purpose behind invention- During World War II, Lamarr learned that radio-controlled torpedoes, an emerging technology in naval war, could easily be jammed and set off course. She thought of creating a frequency-hoping signal that could not be tracked or stopped, which today is part of worldwide communication.
25. X-ray
Invented by- Wilhelm Rontgen in 1895.
The Purpose behind invention- "X" signifying then-unknown origin. He later found that the rays could pass through flesh and, by using photographic plates, could make images of bones inside the body.
