1. What is the Least count?

Ans. The smallest value that can be measured by a

measuring instrument is called least count.

 

2. What is Screw Pitch?

Ans. The linear distance moved by the screw-head in

one complete rotation is called screw pitch.

 

3. What is Specific Gravity?

Ans. The Specific Gravity of a solid is defined as the ratio

of the weight of any volume of that solid to the

importance of an equal volume of water at 4℃.

 

4. What is the total reading of the Screw Gauge, if

The major scale reading is 4mm, and the Circular scale

reading is 25? The minor count of the Screw Gauge is

0.01mm.

Ans. 4mm + 25×0.01mm

= 4mm + 0.25mm

16. What is the Calorific view of fuel?

 Ans: The calorific value of a fuel is the number of units of heat evolved during complete combustion of the unit weight of the power. For liquids and solids, it is usually expressed in Btu/1b or Cal/gm. 

 The calorific value may be expressed in two types (i) Gross calorific value (GCV) (ii) Net calorific value (NCV)

 

(a) Gross Calorific Value (GCV): The quantity of heat evolved by the combustion of unit quantity of fuel is its gross calorific value (GCV). Gross or higher calorific value is the quantity of heat liberated by combusting unit mass of energy in oxygen, the original material and the final product of combustion being at a reference temperature of 25°🌡️ and water obtained is in the liquid state.

 

(b) Net Calorific Value(NCV): Net Calorific Value (NCV) is the quantity of heat evolved when a unit quantity of fuel is burnt in oxygen, the original material, and the final products of combustion being at a reference temperature of 25°C 🌡️and the water obtained from the fuel is in the vapor state.
