Southern Brave have crowned champions of the inaugural Men’s Hundred competition. They beat Birmingham Phoenix in the finals at Lords on 21st August 2021. After a month of scintillating cricketing action, here is the team of the tournament.
1. Quinton de Kock: (Southern Brave Wicket-keeper)
- South African talisman was the second-highest run-scorer for Southern Brave with 202 runs, averaging 33.67 in 8 games, striking at 172.65. He not only scored two half-centuries and got them off to flying starts but also was crucial behind the wickets with 11 catches and 1 stumping. Quinton faced 117 balls in his 8 innings and hit as many sixes.
2. Liam Livingston: (Birmingham Phoenix)
- The 28 years old Barrow-in-Furness-born Liam Livingston was the highest run-getter of the men’s hundred tournaments. He scored 348 runs in 9 innings with a strike rate of 178.46, averaging a sensational 58 in such a short format. He also hit 27 towering sixes in 9 games,12 more than the second-best. He scored 46 off 19 balls in the finals, which was not enough.
3. Ben Duckett: (Welsh Fire)
- Ben Duckett was the highest run-scorer for Welsh Fire and 2nd highest of the tournament. He scored 232 runs in 169 balls, registering two fifties and averaging 29 with a strike rate of 137.28. He’s developed into an excellent shorter format batsman and clearly worked hard against spin bowling.
4. Moeen Ali: (Birmingham Phoenix, Captain)
- England all-rounder Mo Ali captained Birmingham Phoenix to the final. He scored 224 runs for them with an average of 32.14 at a 148.02 strike rate. He also contributed with the ball, picking 4 crucial wickets. He was excellent against the slow-ball bowlers. Striking long and clean. Though, he looked a little scratchy after coming back from playing for England against India.
5. Glenn Phillips: (Welsh Fire)
- The swashbuckling kiwi cricketer Glenn Phillips lit the tournament towards the end with his feisty hitting. He helped Welsh Fire win their last game and finish 7th by scoring 80 runs. He was the 2nd highest run-getter for Welsh Fire. He scored 214 runs in 146 deliveries. He also registered two fifties, averaging 35.67 at a 146.58 strike rate. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed, as the Rajasthan Royals have picked him up for IPL 2021.
6. Harry Brook: (Northern Superchargers)
- Harry Brook announced himself to the world in style by scoring 189 runs in just 5 innings. He missed a couple of games towards the end after contracting Covid-19. He had been in scintillating form in the T20 blast tournament and carried that form into the hundred. Scoring 62 runs in his opening game. He averaged 47.25 at an impressive 153.65 strike rate. One thing is certain; he will find a lot of suitors in the upcoming IPL auction.
7. Samit Patel: (Trent Rockets)
- The evergreen English all-rounder Samit Patel turned out to be a crucial player for Trent Rockets. Samit scored 179 runs for Trent Rockets with an average of 29.83 at a 157 strike rate. Not only did he score important runs, but also he picked 8 wickets in 134 deliveries. Although Patel is not in contention for England's call-up, he can scan still give romances domestically.
8. Rashid Khan: (Trent Rockets)
- Even though the afghan international didn’t look his usual self as far as the economy is concerned, he still managed to get wickets at regular intervals. He picked up 12 wickets for his team, becoming the highest wicket-taker for Trent Rocket. He also managed some lusty blows with the bat towards the end of their innings. He edged out Adil Rashid as well as Imran Tahir to be the number no.1 spinner.
9. Adam Milne: (Birmingham Phoenix)
- The kiwi speedster Adam Milne was the pick of the fast bowler in the hundred. Adam Milne picked 12 wickets for Birmingham Phoenix with an economy rate of less than 1 run per ball, making him the most economical bowler of the tournament. He averaged 10.75 with a strike rate of 11.25. He bowled with accuracy in the power play to contain the opposition batsmen and bowled some deadly Yorkers towards the end.
10 Adil Rashid: (Northern Superchargers)
- The English limited-over specialist and the number 1 spinner Adil Rashid also managed to pick 12 wickets in 135 balls with the best figure of 3/13. Even though he was a little expensive, he was still threatening in the middle overs with his leg-spin bowling.
11. Marchant de Lange: (Trent Rockets)
- The 30 years old tall South African fast spearhead picked 12 wickets in 119 balls for Trent Rockets, the best in the tournament. He also became the first bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in the hundred against Southern Brave at Trent Bridge. He had a strike rate of 9.92, which was the 7th best in the tournament.
