1. Avoid Distractions that are unnecessary to your goals.
Do you prefer listening to music while you're working or engage yourself in something else rather than your work? If yes, then you're not comfortable in your working condition and cannot put in maximum effort.
Different Research proves that environmental noises such as background music, television noise, etc., not only distract your concentration but implies a serious impact on your mental health in the long term. However, the majority obtains better efficiency in their work when working in a quiet atmosphere. A free trip is to make your working environment peaceful to ensure high concentration. Always work with a positive mindset and make sure you're constantly developing interest rather than performing your tasks as a burden.
Aside from background noise, make sure there are no social distractions such as family, friends, and social media while you're working to ensure maximum concentration and avoid distractions.
2. Don't try to multitask
Whenever you try to multitask, you seem like you're saving time, but that's not the case. MultiTasking is actually really harmful to your efficiency. Multi-Tasking includes the following Taking notes during a lecture. Completing paperwork while reading the fine print. Driving a vehicle while talking to someone Doing anything mentioned above can reduce your productivity by 40%.
Our brains are not capable of multitasking. Why? Because you're quickly shifting your focus from one task to another, which makes your brain stressed, and it gets difficult to avoid distractions that can lead to brain blocks.
To stay focused in your life and avoid distractions, you must ensure that your brain gets the time to stop a task and start another. For example, you're working on creative writing, and you also need to solve mathematics word problems; you need to engage in a mental shift from being creative to processing maths before you can get to your full creativity and focus (because multitasking increases accuracy steadily decreases). To maintain your focus try to pay attention to a single task instead of doing multiple things half-heartedly, which will certainly affect the quality of your work and will eventually require more time to go back and fix that later on.
3. Situate Your Goals with Your Core Values
Your core values are the foundational factors that you believe are essential in life. When your goals and core values are aligned, you feel a sense of satisfaction, happiness, and fulfillment in life. Apparently, if you're performing a role that doesn't fit your values well, you'll probably feel disconnected from work. And if it's an extreme condition, you may probably end up feeling miserable and depressed.
Think about it; let's say you pursued a career knowing that there are immense opportunities for growth within it. You go forth for your promotions, bonuses and indeed, your career did take off. You're financially successful, but morally you're unstable because you cost up with the time you could spend with your family, friends and at this time, you lack the desired feeling of connection with your family. Your great career, on the other hand, does not give you the same amount of happiness.
You also want your goals to be aligned with your core values because it gives you an intrinsic sense of motivation to work better and effectively. Your intrinsic motivation helps you to continue moving forwards towards your goals despite any sort of adversity. When you are intrinsically motivated, you've set your goals for more for a personal reason which gives you an internal prompt to work effectively because this process is naturally satisfactory.
It may take time, even several years, and a lot of trial and error, until you understand yourself, identify your core values. Your values must act as a guide in finding out what required goals fit the best. If you are not aware or unclear about your core values, start by taking this quiz. After getting a good idea of your core values, sort out how your work aligns with them.
4. Get the most important things out of the way
Figure out the most important tasks which are essential to complete to make your progress moving towards your goal. To ensure these things get accomplished, you must do the most important tasks (MITs) initially in the morning. The idea behind this is that no matter what you do for the rest of your day, you've already accomplished the things that will make the greatest impact on your progress in meeting your goals.
Making sure you're focused the entire day, you will have a sense of satisfaction that you have taken some practical action towards making your dream come true by performing the MITs at the foremost. Make it a morning habit to complete your MITs instantly, rather than leaving it to be done in the afternoon or evening because you never know when distractions can move you aside from your track.
5. Review your goals daily.
If you have been following DHG, you would know that the first thing you should perform upon waking up in the morning is your vision board. If it's already the case for you, you’ve accomplished this step. Rewinding your goals daily is one of the most effective ways to maintain your commitment. Keep your main tasks your priority by reviewing your goals daily.
Doing it will keep them at the front of your mind to ensure you will spend your time and attention on the most important tasks each day, which will make it a lot easier to ignore distractions aside from your goal that could disturb your focus.
6. Do some momentum management
Another thing you need to do every day is momentum management. Keeping your momentum going will assist you in being concentrated and committed to your goals, so it’s essential not to take breaks from your efforts. If you take a short break from working toward your goal, losing momentum and abandoning your goal is straightforward.
Follow successful advice and don’t break the chain. This means you are required to work every single day to move closer to success. These aren't always huge tasks, just anything that keeps reminding you about your targets, so you are engaged in the process. For example, if your target is to improve your physical activity and change your diet to reach a certain weight…never slow down your momentum because it’s your free time or the holidays. Go for a steady walk– or anything to maintain that momentum. Nothing out of the box, just something significant enough to contribute to your physical health.
7. Use a Planner to Track Your Progression
Setting up your goals is the easiest part. Ensuring that you’re making continuous progress toward your goal is what often gets forgotten. If you use the SMART goal method to design your goals, you will have a clear foundation to use to move forward with tracking your progress because you’ll be clear on the specific milestones you want to achieve …and when you want to reach them.
By using a planner to track your progress, not only will you realize that you get more done, but you will also be able to look back and see how far you’ve come instead of just looking at how far you still have to go. This will help you always to feel proud of what you’ve accomplished thus far and be motivated.
Keeping your progress followed by a planner will help you stay well organized and on schedule, so you will know your next step, leaving less option to abandon your goals. Using a To-Do List will help you remind and prevent your goals from getting lost in your everyday life.
8. Break Down Your Goals Into Short Targets
A quick way to devastate your focus is to only look at the bigger picture of your goal. Assume that you’re working on a goal that will take at least a few months to accomplish; without breaking it down, you’re likely to get discouraged because your goal seems like too much work and a burden for you. Instead, focus on a single work at a time.
Your goals must be managed properly, and chances are, at first glance, it won't seem so simple. So the best is to break it down into several parts that are individually manageable.
Just make sure every actionable step you make is meaningful and relevant –as in, the task has to be something that will help you get closer to achieving the objective you’re working on.
9. Practice Focusing
