Chest pain may occur due to many reasons, but the most dangerous is heart-related chest pain. When there is a lack of supply of oxygenated blood in the heart, the feeling of suffocation and suppression in the chest may occur, called angina or angina pectoris. Angina is mainly the prior state of a heart attack. The symptoms of angina in women may be different from that of a man. It is one of the main reasons for the late detection of angina in women.
Causes of Angina
- Low blood flow in the heart.
- Clogging of the coronary artery.
- Accumulation of fat around the heart.
- Narrowing of blood vessels around the heart.
- Some medicines tighten blood vessels which obstacles the flow of blood in the heart. They are migraine drugs, cocaine, illegal drugs, etc.
- Sudden spasm in the coronary artery.
- Accumulation of blood clots around the heart.
- Physical work, emotional stress, heavy meal, smoking, drinking alcohol, etc., tightens blood vessels and triggers angina.
Our blood contains oxygen dissolved in it, whose continuous supply is essential for our heart. Any blockage that obstacles blood flows in the heart, or if the blood supply is not enough, angina happens.
Symptoms of Angina
- Pain behind the sternum.
- Chest pain occurring from physical work, mental pressure, excessive eating, cold weather, etc. Pain lasts for 5 to 30 minutes.
- Angina may spread to the neck, shoulder, jaw, back, arm, even in teeth.
- Sometimes the source of the pain cannot be located.
- Burning sensation in the chest and feeling pressure on the chest.
- Besides chest pain,, angina creates problems, indigestion, and arises vomiting tendencies.
- Short of breath, tiredness,, and breathing heavily.
In some cases,, the patient may remain oblivious to angina but feel heaviness in the shoulder and arm. Chest pain is followed by sweat, nausea,, and the body becombecomes. The patient suffers from anxiety, tiredness and finds hardship in easy works too. In women, in place of random chest pain, there might be stabbing pain, tightness in the chest,, and a feeling of suffocation.
Ways to control Angina
The most important way to control angina is to maintain a disciplined lifestyle and build a healthy body. For that, special attention has to be paid to some matters. Some matters are out of our hands,, like age, gender, familial history of heart diseases. But there are some matters that stay within our reach. If the following steps are maintained, heart diseases can be kept under control.
- Walking daily and doing enough physical exercise.
- Obesity must be prevented. Excessive eating and stored fat can be the sole cause of many heart diseases.
- Healthy and foods with fewer calories should be consumed.
- Blood pressure and cholesterol level should be kept under control.
- Diabetes should be prevented or kept under control.
- Seasonal fruits and green vegetables should be eaten in abundance.
- Smoking can highly affect your heart and lungs. So, smoking should be given up.
- Drinking alcohol is highly prohibited.
- Sweet foods and dairy products should be eaten in a limited amounts.
- Full body checkups should be done twice or at least once a year.
Angina is the earlier stage of heart disease. If not treated seriously in this stage, heart attack or even heart failure may happen afterward. If the situation demands, a doctor must be consulted.
