Janmashtami, also known as simply Gokulastami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth Avatar of Lord Vishnu.

According to the calendar, the festival is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha ( waning phase of the Moon) or the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapad. According to this year, Janmashtami celebrates on the 30th of August 2021.

The Birth Story of Sree Krishna

As Krishna is born at midnight, puja is performed at midnight. Krishna was the son of Devki and Vasudeva. Krishna is the God of love, tenderness, and compassion. It is believed that Krishna was born in a surgeon of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. Hindu mythology portrays him as a Prankster, a gentle lover, a universal supreme being, and a childlike God.

Devaki had a brother, Kansa, a tyrant. When Devaki was getting married to the Yadav king Vasudev, Kansa was told by fortune tellers that one of the offspring of Devaki would bring his end. Kansa decided to kill Devaki right there, but after begging for his wife's life, Vasudev promise to hand each child to Kansa as soon as the child was born to Devaki, Kansa would smash the child head against the wall of the prison.

Hence, Vasudev secretly carried baby Krishna across the Yamuna river, which was no longer in the state but was raining as it were the ocean. Just then, Lord Vishnu shesh Naag, the giant multi-headed snake, came and helped Vasudev carry Krishna safely across the river Yamuna and went to Nandraja's hours and exchanged the babies. Then Krishna knows as the son of Nataraja.

Then the night celebrates in the make the birth of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Krishna is the eighth child of his Mother Devaki so, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day. It is an important festival, particularly in the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism.

A Story of Sree Krishna and Devi Draupadi

The story is the part of the Mahabharat. According to one version on a Sankranti day, Krishna cut his little finger while handling sugarcane. Draupadi, the wife of Pandav who was nearby, tore off a part of her clothes and bandaged his finger in return for this deep; Krishna promised to protect her in time of distress, Draupadi used to try a rakhi to the Lord's hand every year, and Krishna always showered his protection on her.

And that was how Draupadi's sari became endless and saved her embarrassment on the day of Cheerharan in Kauravas king Dhuitarashtra's court, known as kurusabha.

How people celebrate the Janmashtami

The lord, Krishna's Birthday, is celebrated eight days of rakhi, after Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bond of the brother and sister. On Janmashtami day, song, dance, and Drama are essential to the living as a colorful celebration.

Play is carried out by re-enacting scenes from Krishna's early life. In the temple, the image of Lord Krishna is bathed and placed in a candle, in which the shankh ( conch shell) is blown, and the bell is rung. Holy mantras are chanted to him.

Radha's spiritual love, devotion unto Sree Krishna, has been misinterpreted as love in Radha Krishna's relationship.
