1. Accept the past
The first step in healing a broken heart is to accept that the relationship didn’t work even if you gave your best. You have to make peace with the past and believe that everything is happening for a reason, and breaking up was maybe right for you. Only then can you forget the past and the associated bitter-sweet memories.
2. Let go
You’ve really invested a lot in this relationship, which is why letting goes is challenging. However, it is time to stop watering the dead plant. You may have high hopes for this relationship to continue, but not everything is going as planned, and that’s ok. As the saying goes, “the first step is the hardest,” but when you take it, you find that your self-esteem is too valuable, and it’s best to throw away a relationship that couldn’t make you happy.
3. Know that forgetting takes time
When you are alone and those memories begin to haunt you, you want to have a magic wand that could wipe out the former in an instant. But in reality, not everything is so easy because forgetting takes time and doesn’t happen overnight. It always requires willpower and a lot of patience. So, don’t be hard on yourself if you couldn’t progress as expected.
4. Don’t lose your self-control
In the hustle and bustle of urgent forgotten memories, people make one common mistake: losing self-control and pampering too much to the party, drinking alcohol, or infecting strangers. Such activities may give you short-term happiness, but they would do more harm than good in the long run.
5. Theft is a strict no-no
It’s quite tempting to want to know what the former has been like since the breakup. Thanks to social media, you can easily trace their whereabouts, but this will only slow down your healing and push you into more misery. Never demand your ex in person or online. If you can’t resist, stay away from social media until you achieve self-control.
6. Start a hobby
An empty mind is a devil’s workshop, so try to keep your mind involved. This does not mean that you start working 16 hours a day. A good way to keep yourself occupied is to pursue a hobby. So dust the college badminton macaque and go to the game or take the calligraphy course you missed in the middle. Participating in such activities not only increases your self-confidence but also helps you rediscover yourself.
7. Spend time with family
After a breakup, you may feel abandoned and unloved, and family may be the best place to find love. Your family may have seen you at the lowest and highest; they also love you as you are, and you always have your back. Spending time with family can help you heal and forget about the former.
8. Talk to a trusted friend
"Why did this happen to me ?" “ Was it my fault?” Or “ Can I do something else?” Questions like this have no end after breaking up. Eventually, while searching for answers, you may make a mistake by contacting the former. Therefore, whenever you feel overwhelmed by thoughts, talk to your trusted friend to help you get a new perspective on life.
9. Go on a solo trip
This tip can never go wrong as it would help you regain your self-confidence and give you some time for me. If you feel the need for a break, don’t hesitate, pack your bags and go on a solo trip to your favorite destination.
10. Remove all media
Another quick way to forget about the former is to sever all ties with them. Delete their contacts from your phone, give them their clothes and anything that reminds you, and block them on social media. If you can’t resist the temptation to look for them, change your phone number or stop visiting places where you might come across them. Finally, don’t include yourself in conversations that include your past unless you’re strong enough to handle it.
