Question.1: Can you get (catch) acne from other people?
Answer: Although some types of acne contain bacteria, it is found in the hair follicles under your skin and cannot be transmitted by contact. So no, touching or kissing someone with acne will not give you acne.
Question.2: If both my parents have acne, does it mean I will have acne?
Answer: Research shows that genes play a key role in determining who develops acne. Children of parents who have acne, therefore, have a greater chance of developing acne. It should be noted that, like any other illness, just because you have a family history does not guarantee that you will get it; only that you have a greater chance of developing it instead of someone who has no family history.
Question.3: Does eating or drinking certain foods cause acne?
Answer: Over the years studies have suggested that everything from chocolate, candy, fried foods, sugar, drinking water, orange juice to milk can cause acne or worsening of existing acne. However, there is no scientific evidence to support any of these findings. There are so many factors that may cause acne to grow that it is very difficult to distinguish any major cause. So to avoid or not to avoid certain foods or drinks is a personal preference. If you find that your skin reacts negatively to certain foods or food groups, then it is better to look for alternatives.
Question.4: Does the dirt on my skin cause acne?
Answer: Proper hygiene will help healthy skin. Dirty skin, however, will not cause acne, but anyone with acne should be extremely careful about having a good cleansing routine as dirty skin can sometimes cause acne to worsen. Excessive washing can irritate your skin and make it more prone to infections, which are also bad. Bathing with a gentle cleanser will help reduce the formation of acne cells and keep your skin looking its best. So find a balance and try not to overdo it, or otherwise, the results can be bad for you.
Question.5: Does stress cause acne?
Answer: Depression has been shown to make acne worse, not to cause it directly. So if you suffer from acne, you should be aware of how you react under stress and develop strategies to help manage and keep it under control. This will not only help control your acne, but also benefit the rest of your life.
Question.6: Can you develop acne even after your teens?
Answer: The simple answer is yes. In fact, most people who have never had acne in their teens can develop it later on.
Question.7: Does makeup or sunscreen make acne worse?
Answer: Some oily and thick products can attach to the skin follicles, leading to the growth of acne. Not all products affect everyone in the same way, so while most people develop acne using one product, someone else may not. If you are prone to acne, you will need to be very careful about what you put on your skin. Always try to use oil-free products and check a small amount on a piece of skin for a few days before using it all the time.
Question.8: Will exercise affect my acne?
Answer: Although it is not yet clear why this happens, vigorous physical activity makes your body heat and sweat appear to make acne worse for some people. Another theory is that exercise increases the production of sebum, an oil that, when overproduced, causes acne. However, this is only a theory.
Question.9: Can a face massage or a facial help with acne?
Answer: There is no easy way to answer this question. A facial is used to describe everything from a counter product you buy at a drugstore and do it yourself, as well as something that is done in an expensive spa area for hundreds of dollars. The important thing is that anything that can irritate your skin, or you are allergic to, can make your acne worse.
Question.10: Why does my acne stop responding to my current treatment?
Answer: Acne medications, like all medicines, may not work as well as they do when your body builds resistance. It may be necessary to use anti-acne medications to make sure that the medicines you are taking have their best effect.
