Edirne
Edirne is the gateway to Turkey. Edirne was captured by the Bulgars in the 10th century and was ransacked twice by Crusaders until it fell to the Ottomans. The Turkish and Islamic Art Museum, inside the Mosque Complex, has religious and ethnographic displays. Edirne was the second capital city of the Ottoman Empire. This beautiful city is famed for its many Mosques.
Mount Nemrut
The site was built by King Antiochus I of the Commagene Empire in the 1st century BC. It includes two terraces, one on each side of the mountain, with two large stone thrones at the top. These were used for religious ceremonies to honor the gods. On the eastern terrace, there are seven giant stone statues with hieroglyphs depicting gods and goddesses of the Greek, Persian, and Armenian pantheon. On the western terrace, there are three enormous lion statues that guard the entrance.
