He is distinguished by his gruff voice and his eagerness to portray historical figures. Today is 7th June, Liam Nesson’s birthday. I will be listing his top 10 performances. Liam Neeson is a Northern Irish actor who holds Irish, British and American citizenship. He has been nominated for several awards, including an academy award for best actor, a BAFTA award for best actor in a leading role, and three Golden Globe awards for best actor.
With that said, let’s jump into the article.

10. Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace (1999)
The first entry of this list is the only redeeming quality of George Lucas’s otherwise downright disappointing prequel. As Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Neeson plays a memorable trainer, mentor, and father figure to both a young Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is a well-crafted performance by the Irish actor.
9. Alistair Little in Five minutes of heaven (2009)
Neeson plays a former UVF member, Alistair Little, in this movie. Decades after he killed a young, innocent man and served his sentence for the crime, he is asked to reconcile on camera with the victim’s brother.
The result was a charged performance where Neeson plays a man who is desperately seeking absolution.
8. Peter Westlake in Darkman (1990)
In this film, Liam portrays a scientist who becomes disfigured after the mob destroys his lab. He then uses unstable synthetic skin to steal identities to exact his revenge.
This performance showcases the actor’s ability to rise above the prosthetic makeup to depict a sympathetic monster.
7. Dr. Jerome Lovell in Nell (1994)
Liam Neeson’s one of the most underrated performances, in my opinion, is this. As a sensitive doctor and clinical psychologist, Neeson attempts to help a woman (played by Jodie Foster) who developed her language after being raised in isolation.
Throughout the tale, he developed a father/daughter relationship with Nell while also learning about her past and deciphering her language.
6. Bryan Mills in Taken (2008)
In this thriller, this veteran actor proves himself as a believable action star. He played an ex-soldier who is on a furious mission to rescue his abducted from slave traders.
Neeson is unyielding in the role and kicks butts by hitting his enemies in their throat.
5. Henri Ducard / Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman Begins (2005)
In a very, very rare occurrence, Neeson takes up the role of the bad guy in this superhero venture by Batman’s mentor, the immortal Ra’s Al Ghul.
This character is an adaptation of a comic book villain, and Neeson can inject a multi-faceted performance by playing a man who takes his sense of justice too, too far.
4. Michael Collins in Michael Collins (1996)
This role is a part of destiny and irony. Ireland’s most outstanding actor plays Ireland’s greatest revolutionary. As Michael Collins, Neeson gives an explosive performance as he heads a rebellion. In this role, he faithfully pays tribute to the passionate patriot who died during the Irish Civil war. It is also nominated to the Golden Globe Awards.
3. Alfred Kinsey in Kinsey (2004)
In this biographical picture, Neeson plays the infamous professor whose research on human sexuality has altered social and cultural values across the globe.
He holds nothing back in this engaging portrayal and tries his best to take the taboo out of sex.
2. Robert Roy Macgregor in Rob Roy (1995)
In this historical drama, Neeson helps bring 18th century Scotland to life as a cattle driver and clan leader. When the money he borrowed from nobility to buy cattle is stolen, he is forced into a lifestyle reminiscent of Robin Hood.
To defend his family and honor, he transforms from a peace-loving man into a force to be reckoned with.
1. Oskar Schindler in Schindler’s List (1993)
Taking the top spot in my list is Liam Neeson’s Oscar-nominated performance as a heroic German who saves the lives of more than 1000 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them. As the lead in Steven Spielberg’s true World War 2 story, Neeson plays a man who is forced to rethink his beliefs and ethics during a horrifying period in world history.
Neeson creates a human character who takes on intense risks and his family to do the right thing.
We are going through a tough time today. The whole world is copping with a period that is killing lives across the globe. To quote one of Neeson’s best characters, I can say, “This all is going to end someday, you know.” Happy Birthday, Liam Neeson.
