Highlining
Highlining often tops the list of the most dangerous and extreme sports in the world. It doesn’t only require the participant to be physically fit but also challenges them mentally. The sport involves walking on a Highline that is fixed between two rocky formations or mountains. It would be best if you had the nerves of steel to try this adventure sport.
Big wave surfing
While most individuals find it challenging to stand upright on a surfboard, only a few of them embrace the pleasure of surfing the big waves. It is one of the deadliest water sports where adrenaline junkies battle gigantic waves on the tow-boards. The hazards mainly include being drowned, pulled into the water, or thrashed by an underwater rock.
Cave diving
There are numerous challenges associated with cave diving. Some of the known ones are equipment failure, visibility issues, unpredictable currents, and the fear of what might be waiting for you down there! Let’s not even begin to count the unknown ones!
Free solo climbing
Climbing a mountain, even with all the harnesses and safety equipment, is problematic in itself. Imagine climbing it without any of these! But then there is plenty of daredevil around the world who still try this sport despite the dangers involved – like slipping, getting cramps, getting cut or bruised, getting stuck, or worse, falling!
Ice climbing
Climbing a vertical and tricky formation of ice is not an easy task, especially when there is a constant fear of going numb because of the cold and dying! It is very much like Free Soloing, but with additional dangers of the cold and the fear of freezing to death before you’re ever rescued! It is one of the most dangerous adventure sports in the world.
Wingsuit flying
Only people who have skydived at least 200 times in their life are allowed to try wingsuit flying. Yes, it happens to be that dangerous! And even then, no one can ever call themselves to have perfected this feat since there are numerous unforeseen hurdles when you’re flying in the air. These can include crashing into artificial or natural structures, sudden weather changes, and much more.
White water Rafting
River rafting has various difficulty levels called rapids involved, and with each increasing rapidly, the chance of getting out of the water alive diminishes. Many times, the high-level rapids in white water rafting can devour even the most hard-core rafters! There is plenty of thrilling and treacherous river stretches in the world where white water rafting can be practiced to understand why it’s on the list of hazardous adventure sports. The Teesta River in India and Deschutes River in Oregon are two of them.
Bungee jumping
How would you like to experience a free fall from the height of 83m and swing in the air like a ball of pendulum tied to nothing but a rope? Excited? Scared? It is not for the faint-hearted people. A long and robust cord is linked to the jumper’s ankles, and all that will be left is leaping faith! The weightlessness you will feel will never be a match for anything else. After the initial jump, the rope will swing around for a while where you can enjoy the 360 degree – Literally!
Waterfall Rappelling
We have all heard about Rock Climbing, and many people have even tried it on a few comparatively more straightforward rocks. But what if you have to climb up the rock while the constant flow of water from the waterfall keeps coming in your direction? Waterfall Rappelling allows you to take your love for the waterfalls to the next level and experience them like never before. A harness is tied to the climber’s waist while they try to climb the rock through the waterfall. The slippery surfaces on the stone make the experience even more challenging.
Mountain Biking
Not satisfied with hopping on your road bike and wheeling through the countryside? Mountain biking is the alternative you need to boost the excitement factor because rest assured, when you’re tearing down a mountain trail, you may never want to return to your road saddle. With every corner, jump, and descent, you will navigate loose terrain, tree roots, and rocks, which adds to the excitement and unpredictability of this adventure sport.
Bottom line
It is hard to rank sports based on danger, especially since no sport committee wishes to highlight the perils of the sport. Even though agencies like Forbes often make such lists based on casualties and possible dangers. However, many people are drawn to these dangerous sports just for the adrenaline rush and the kick they get from it. These sports are not for the faint-hearted. If someone loves to live on the edge, these are jokes are just meant for them.
