Top 10 Inside CIBIL Transformation: How RBI 5 New Rules are Changing Credit Scores Forever

The Future of Credit Scores: RBI's New Rules Explained

Credit scores are becoming increasingly important in today's world, with more and more credit information companies regulating them. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently introduced a set of rules that are set to make a difference in your life. These rules, issued on October 26, 2023, give credit information companies six months to implement them. In this post, we will discuss five important rules that RBI has introduced.

1. Intimation of Access to Credit Information Report

Credit Information Companies (CIC) will send alerts through SMS and email to customers when their credit information report is accessed. This way, customers can complain if their information is being accessed without their consent, helping them to save their credit score from falling.

2. Information Regarding Default

CIC will send alerts through SMS and email to customers when their information is submitted regarding default and days past due (DPD) in assisting credit facilities. This will help customers stay informed about their credit score and take necessary actions to improve it.

3. Free Credit Report

RBI has made it easier for individuals to access their free full credit report, including their credit score, once a year. This rule ensures that customers can conveniently access their credit score report and take steps to improve it.

4. Complaint Resolution and Compensation

If a complaint is not resolved within 30 calendar days from the date of the initial filing, the complainant is entitled to compensation of ₹1 per calendar day. This rule encourages credit agencies to resolve complaints promptly and fairly.

5. Reasons for Data Correction Rejections

Credit Information Companies (CIC) must inform customers of the reasons for the rejection of the request for data correction, allowing them to better understand the issues and take appropriate action.

Conclusion: RBI's new rules are designed to help customers stay informed about their credit scores and ensure that credit agencies are held accountable. These rules are just the beginning, and we can expect RBI to introduce more rules and regulations in the future to further help consumers.
