Top 10 facts you should know about success.

Top10 Facts You Should Know About Success.

The world has no shortage of diverse cultures, individuals, and indeed no shortage of measures of success.

Everyone seems to be constantly chasing one destination or another no matter what part of the world they live in, but one of the biggest things that traveling around the world always highlights is how similar we all are.

We are all different but fundamentally the same, and this basic similarity is very apparent when it comes to the question of success.

No matter what your goals are or where you are in the world, these truths about success are sometimes so easily forgotten (in which case it's always nice to be reminded of them) or you never even think about them, but they should be at the forefront of your mind.

1) Success is relative.

Your measure of success is different than someone else's and will likely change several times. Try to note what your benchmark is (write it down if you have to) so you can give yourself the kudos you deserve when you hit it.

2) Sometimes it's hard to recognize that you're successful when you become successful.

Even if your motivation to succeed seems very obvious when you achieve it and are finally "successful", it's so easy to get lost in the journey to success that you forget to stop and evaluate what you've actually achieved. Try to stop now and then and pat yourself on the back for what you have accomplished.

3) You should celebrate yourself.

No one will if you don't. While society values modesty and most people who celebrate their success may seem like a show-off, it's important to be able to celebrate yourself (as your friends or family probably would) for achieving the goals you've set for yourself.

4) It's not always easy to recognize when you're on the fast track to success.

It's a bit similar to point number 2, but it's so easy to look at some people who have achieved amazing things in a relatively short period of time and not realize that you're doing the exact same thing. Especially when it seems like all you're doing is putting in all the hard work with seemingly very little payoff. In fact, you are much closer to your goals than you realize.

5) There is no substitute for hard work.

Yes, sometimes luck can contribute to success, but no matter what anyone tells you, no successful person is "just lucky." Luck can give you a good start or put you in the right place to start your journey to success, but hard work is what will lead you to success.

6) Happiness is like a match, yes it can start a fire, but you will need a lot more to keep that fire going.

Many times people will not see the hard work you put into your goals and will probably discount it, not because they are being unkind, but because they just don't know how much time and effort it took. To get you where you are. They will most likely focus on the brighter side of things and not give you the credit you deserve for your hard work. Never let it get to you. If you feel like it, you can share your story with them and give them insight, but you should never feel like you have to. If people think you're lucky, it's probably because you've worked so hard and done a fantastic job at such a smooth job that you don't understand what it really took to get where you are.

7) You will probably have several iterations and have to try several times before you finally succeed.

With each iteration, it's important to collect all the lessons you've learned and use them to improve in the next iteration.

8) Stick It Out.

Seriously, if you really believe something is what you should be doing, then just stick with it. Lloyd recently watched a TED Talk about successful people, and there was a message in it that said something like, “It's not always the most talented people in each field who are the most successful in their field. They are usually people who have perseverance, the ability to think outside the box (and of course some talent) who are able to become successful in whatever field they are in.

9) You need to immerse yourself in your field.

You can't be a successful Formula 1 driver by never stepping into a car. Even "outsiders" have some involvement in the areas they want to be successful in, they just have a different approach/point of view than everyone else. You really need to surround yourself with something relevant to your field (which should be fairly easy if you're really interested in the field).

10) I always say it and I will say it again.

Never let anyone tell you 'No'. Yes, people can say the words 'No', it's not in control, but what you can control is how you feel and the message you take from that 'No'. Rejections never define who you are unless you let them. Strangely enough, I was randomly listening to a BBC show talking about the auditions now held by successful people like Enid Byton (writer) and The Rolling Stones to name a few where the people who ran the studio just didn't think these famously successful individuals had anything decent to offer to the public, so they wrote them off. They went on to prove them wrong, so it's important to remember that people have never defined you and never will.

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates a talented individual from a successful one is a lot of hard work.” - Stephen King
