A haunted story always fascinates most human beings. The spookiness we may not see but can feel its presence is a thought. This thought is thrilling as well as scary too. But stories become popular when people start to believe that they are real. Some religion or community believes in such stories of spirits, but people from all over the world enjoy horror stories. Some people accept the existence of spirits, but some deny it. Nevertheless, once a spooky tale becomes famous, people start to believe in it, and eventually, that place becomes popular and receives visitors even from abroad. So, it is tough to analyze which story is true or fake without experience by ourselves, but the stories are definitely fascinating to read.
India is a country of rituals and myths. In India, people worship god/goddess, even worship natures, and imagines spirits in neutral gender. Spirits not only bother humans but also bothers birds too. Assam is very famous for migratory birds around the world. Jatinga is a village in Assam popular for the mass suicide of birds. Thousands of birds are flown to Jatinga only to commit suicide every year. This is still a mystery despite a study conducted by India’s most prestigious Ornithologist, Saleem Ali.
After every Monsoon, Usually September and October on a dark moonless night, a bird has flown to a small strip of land in Jatinga and suddenly becomes disturbed and disoriented between 19.00 – 22.00. The birds plunged towards the village's light and got hurt by trees and wound themselves or die. The villagers of Jatinga believe that the spirit flying from the sky scare them, and they finally kill the wounded bird with bamboo sticks.
The Wildlife and Bird Societies in India try to educate the people and request them not to kill the wounded birds. The death rate of birds has fallen by 40%, and the Government of Assam is hoping that this incident will attract tourist attractions.
South Park Cemetery is located in central Kolkata, West Bengal. It is believed to be the spookiest Cemetery in India. The Cemetery was built in 1767. This cemetery is used to bury prominent British officials, as Captains, Government officials, people honored by Knighthood. In this Cemetery, popular young Anglo-Indian leader and author Henry Louis Vivian Derozio has his grave too.
It is reported that many people who came here have caught many strange structures on their cameras. Also, many people stated that they felt breathing issues, although they don’t have any such issues. According to the locals, this place must be avoided after sunset.
Dumas Beach locates on the Konkan coast, south of Gujrat. This beach is well known for its beauty as well as paranormal mysteries. It is claimed that many people lost their lives on this beach. Locals always warn the tourists not to visit the beach after evening. This beach was used as a Hindu burial ground a long time ago. According to people, the wind blows here brings a fierce whisper.
Dumas Beach is famous for black sand. According to the folklore, that this beach is roaming ground of unsatisfied souls at midnight. Dow Hill, located in Kurseong, 30 km from Darjeeling, is India's abandoned and haunted place. Shaniwarwada Fort has its historical significance because this fort is closely related to Bajirao Peshwa and Maratha Emperor. This place is also a landmark destination in Pune. This fort is built of stone and brick with high architectural value. With its historical importance, this place is well known for its haunting activities too. It is suggested not to go there after sunset, especially on the full moon.
After the death of Madav Rao, 16-year-old Narayan Rao became Peshwa. He was assisted by his uncle Raghunath Rao. Narayan Rao tried to destroy all conspiracy against him, checked Raghunath Rao's power, and arrested him. But his aunt Anandi Bai made a conspiracy with Gardi tribes and killed Narayan Rao. Narayan Rao was cut into pieces and thrown into the river nearby.
According to general beliefs, this fort is haunted by spirits of people who lost their lives in the fire that engulfed the fort. It is said that even today, in the full moon night, one can hear the cry of Narayan Rao. This place is not allowing visitors after 18:30 and in full moon night? No way..!!
Kuldhara is a small village almost 20 km west of Jaisalmer, known for its curse. This village abandoned by people almost 250-300 years ago and cursed that village that no one can live there. Till then, this village remains empty. Kuldhara was a very famous village of Paliwal brahmins. It is said that Kuldhara village and its every building were made scientifically. If you go inside any building, you’ll feel some cold even today despite that place is a part of the Thar Desert.
The story began when the diwan of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh, set his evil eye on the daughter of Village Pradhan (chief) and threatened the villagers if they came in his way, he’d levy huge taxes on them. The Paliwals held a council, and people of 85 villages abandoned their ancestral property and cursed the village that no one will be able to settle in that village thereafter. Even today, the village is still barren, and it is said that whoever tried to stay in the village at night experienced strange paranormal activities.

This palace was built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1600 as his resting place while hunting. Malcha Mahal was occupied by Begum Wilayat Mahal and her children. Begum Wilayat Mahal was the granddaughter of Wajid Ali Shah of Oudh, and she fought with the Indian Government for Nawab’s property seized by Britishers. In the 1970’s she spent 10 years in Railway Station and protesting to get her ancestral property back in 1985. Finally, She awarded Malcha Mahal as compensation, but it had no modern facility, even without electricity.
The spookiness started when Begum Wilayat Mahal died, and her children couldn’t bury her body for 10 days. Later, when they realize people can dig her grave for treasure, her children burned her body and kept the ashes in a crystal vial. Without any income source, Prince Riaz and Princess Sakina (her children) worsen. Some people who saw Prince Riaz riding on a bicycle went shopping to buy meat for their dogs. But Most people believed that Prince Riaz died in 2017 because of hunger, and after that, the Mahal is empty. Many reporters and visitors who went there at night revealed that they realized paranormal activities, and many of them recorded bangles' sounds.
I am sure most of you know about this fort. Surely it is one of the most haunted places not only in India but also in the world. This fort is located at the border of Sariska Tiger Reserve, Alwar District, Rajasthan. Archeological Survey of India has restricted the place for visitors after evening. This fort is now completely ruined and attracts tourists with its negative aura.
The fort was built by Raja Man Singh for his son Madho Singh 1 in the 17th century. It is believed that a local black magician fell in love with Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh and tried to bewitch cosmetics which she used to get her love. The Princess understood the conspiracy, and she poured the entire cosmetics over a massive stone, leading the magician to his death. Before his last breath, he cursed that no soul will ever be able to live there in peace. After that, this fort became cursed and paranormal activities were often noticed at night. According to locals, reporters, and paranormal researchers tried to stay there at night; among them, many were not alive in next morning.
