While comic books explore epic narratives that span the universe (and even the multiverse), the characters themselves are usually at the heart of their stories. Family ties are important in comics, and some of the best dramatic arcs stem from relational dynamics, whether it's between parents and children or siblings.
Professor Xavier & Juggernaut Are Stepbrothers.
He's called the "Unstoppable Juggernaut" for a reason. As Spider-Man well knows, Juggernaut is one of the strongest Marvel villains. The X-Men first encountered Cain Marko in The X-Men #12 in 1965. In that same issue, they learned the truth about Juggernaut: he was Professor Xavier's stepbrother.
While Cain isn't a genetic mutant, he uses the Cyttorak gem, which gifts him incredible strength and protects him from psychic attacks. The rivalry between Xavier and Juggernaut isn't as compelling as Xavier and Magneto's, but their family connection instantly makes Juggernaut a more interesting character with direct ties to the team.
Hawk & Dove Make One Of DC's Best Duos.
Debuting in Showcase #75 in 1968, Hawk and Dove were an adventuring duo who later joined the ranks of the Teen Titans and some versions of the Justice League. Though several characters go on to use the costumes and names, the original Hawk and Dove were brothers Hank and Don Hall.
Thor & Loki Battle For The Throne Of Asgard.
Thor and Loki are two of the most famous brothers in comics. Their family drama often drives the plot of many of the greatest Thor comic stories. While the trickster god began as Thor's villain – powerful enough to take on the entire Avengers team as well – Loki has since experienced multiple redemptive arcs. Loki displayed true heroism during the AXIS event where his sense of morality was altered, and he even became the Sorcerer Supreme.
Cyclops & Havok Have A Complicated History.
Cyclops and Havok's relationship dates back to X-Men #54 when Havok was first introduced. Both boys were orphaned after they believed their parents were dead. While Alex was adopted, Scott spent most of his youth in an orphanage before joining Xavier's school for mutants, and he eventually went on to lead the X-Men.
Havok joined the original X-Men but has since walked the line between ally and antagonist. While the two brothers have had their differences in the past, they were closer than ever in Jonathan Hickman's latest X-Men series, which followed the events of House/Powers of X that united most of mutantkind.
Thanos & Starfox Are Unlikely Siblings.
They may not look alike, but Thanos and Eros, aka Starfox, are actually brothers who grew up on the planet Titan. While Thanos succeeded in collecting all the Infinity Gems to wield cosmic power to impress Death, Eros joined the race of Eternals and wielded cosmic power naturally. While Eros was more carefree and irresponsible, Thanos was a dedicated madman with plans to conquer the universe.
Aquaman & Ocean Master Battle For Atlantis.
Aquaman and Ocean Master share a brotherly relationship similar to Thor and Loki's. One leans toward the side of good while the other does whatever it takes to claim a throne he believes is rightfully his. Orm first debuted in Aquaman #29 in 1966 and has tried to become the ruler of Atlantis ever since.
Dick Grayson & Damian Wayne Continue Batman's Legacy.
After the death of his parents, the Flying Graysons, Dick Grayson was adopted by Bruce Wayne and became the first Robin soon after. Years later, Bruce learned he had a biological son with Talia named Damian. After Batman's death during Final Crisis, Dick assumed the role of Batman with Damian as his new Robin.
Dick and Damian were an unlikely Dynamic Duo, but the pair carried on Batman's legacy until Bruce Wayne returned. Dick and Damian argued and often disagreed, but their time as Batman and Robin was a turning point for both characters, cementing them as brothers and allies for life
