Boxing has given us many greats over the years, but who are the all-time greatest boxers of all time? There’s no easy answer to this question and there are many factors that go into it. Here are 10 of the best boxers of all time from all corners of the world, who represent different eras and fought under different styles. 1) Muhammad Ali
He is broadly viewed as one of the best heavyweight fighters ever. He was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. As a young man, he showed great promise as a boxer and went on to win six Kentucky Golden Gloves championships. In 1960, he won a spot on the U.S.Olympic boxing team and took home the gold medal in the light heavyweight division.
2) Sugar Ray Robinson
1. Sugar Ray Robinson is considered by many to be the greatest boxer of all time.
2. He was a five-time world champion in the welterweight and middleweight divisions, and his career spanned over two decades.
3. Robinson was known for his speed, power, and accuracy, and he was able to control his opponents with ease.
4. He retired with a record of 175-19-6, with 109 knockouts.
3) Joe Louis
One of the most decorated boxers in history, Joe Louis is a name that will always be remembered. He held the heavyweight title for an unprecedented 12 years and defended it 25 times. Not only was he a dominant force in the ring, but he also helped break down racial barriers in America.
4) Rocky Marciano
Rough Marciano is viewed as one of the best fighters ever. He was undefeated in his professional career, with a record of 49-0. He was known for his powerful punches and his granite chin. He was the heavyweight champion from 1952-1956. Rocky Marciano is a boxing legend and will always be remembered as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
5) Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray Leonard is a retired American professional boxer, motivational speaker, and occasional actor. Often cited as one of the greatest boxers of all time, he competed from 1977 to 1997, winning world titles in five weight divisions; the lineal championship in three weight divisions; and The Ring magazine's welterweight title twice.
6) Willie Pep
1. Willie Pep is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time.
2. He was a two-time world champion and held the title for a total of 26 months.
3. Pep was known for his lightning-fast reflexes and incredible footwork.
4. He fought a total of 1,806 rounds during his career, winning 1,273 of them.
5. Pep passed away in 2006 at the age of 84.
7) Henry Armstrong
1. Henry Armstrong was an American boxer who competed from 1931 to 1945.
2. He is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, having been a three-weight world champion, as well as the only boxer in history to hold world championships in three different weight classes simultaneously.
3. Armstrong fought in a total of 175 professional bouts, winning 151 of them.
8) Larry Holmes
Larry Holmes is a retired American professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 2002. He grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania, which gave him the nickname of the Easton Assassin. He won his first 24 professional fights before losing to Muhammad Ali in 1978. After regaining the WBC title, he lost it again to Michael Spinks in 1985. He regained it for the third time in 1988 but lost it for good in 1992. Overall, he had a record of 69 wins and 6 losses.
9) Jack Johnson
Born in 1878 in Galveston, Texas, Jack Johnson was a boxing champion who paved the way for other black athletes. He was the first black heavyweight champion of the world, and his fights were some of the most anticipated events of his time. Johnson's fight against James J. Jeffries in 1910 was billed as The Fight of the Century. He went on to have a successful career in boxing and was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1954.
10) Tony Canzoneri
Tony Canzoneri was one of the most popular and successful boxers of his era. He held world championships in three weight classes and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
