Sometime in the distant past. A superb ruler managed in a realm. One day an unfamiliar guest went to his court, and he introduced an excellent stone to the ruler.
The ruler was extremely satisfied to see that stone. He chose to construct the sculpture of Lord Shiva from that stone and introduce it in the sanctuary of the state, and gave over the undertaking of building the sculpture to the General Secretary of the state.
The Mahamantri went to the best artist of the town and gave him the stone and said, "The Maharaj needs to introduce the icon of Lord Shiva in the sanctuary. Inside seven days, set up the idol of Lord Shiva from this stone and carry it to the royal residence. For this, you will be given 50 gold coins.
The stone worker became glad in the wake of paying attention to the 100 gold coins and, after the flight of the General Secretary, took out his instruments to begin the development work of the sculpture.
He took a sled from his devices and began hitting it with a mallet to break the stone. Yet, the rock continued as before. The artist made a few sleds blows on the stone. However, the stone didn't hurt. 
After attempting multiple times, the artist got the sled to make the last endeavor, yet before hitting the mallet, he pulled out reasoning that when the stone didn't break in the wake of shooting multiple times, what might it hurt now?
He took the stone and returned it to the General Secretary and returned it saying that it was difficult to break this stone. Hence it can't make a symbol of Lord Vishnu.
The General Secretary needed to satisfy the sets of the lord in each circumstance. So he depended on the assignment of making the sculpture of Lord Vishnu to an essential stone worker of the town.
Taking the stone, the artist hit him with a mallet before the General Secretary, and that stone broke in one go.
After the stone was broken, the artist began making the sculpture. Here the General Secretary started to feel that if the central stone carver had put forth one final attempt,
he would have been fruitful and would have been qualified for 50 gold coins.
Lessons
Friends, we also come across such situations in our life. Often, before doing any work or when any problem comes in front of us, our confidence is shaken even before solving it, and we give up without trying.
Many a time, we stop trying further after getting failure in one or two attempts. Whereas it may be that the work would have been completed with some more effort, or the problem would have been solved.
If you want to achieve success in life, then even if you fail, again and again, one should not stop trying until success is achieved.
Do you know, the effort we pull before doing, that should be our last effort, and we should succeed in it.
