NEW DELHI: The central government has issued an advisory to states on hand foot and mouth Disease (HFMD), commonly known as Tomato flu, after more than 100 cases have been reported from Kerala, Tamilnadu, Odisha and Haryana. According to the ministery of Health and family welfare, Tomato flu was first identified in the Kollam district o0f kerala on may 6 and as of Jully 26, more than 82 children younger than 5years with the Infection have been reported by the local goverments hospitals. The other affected areas of Kerala are Anchal, Aryankavu, and Neduvathur. Tomato flu or tomato fever. This fever has been reported from Kerala, Tamilnadu, Haryana and odisha. on Tuesday the union Health Ministery also released guidlines on the disease. In this disease, a round rash liked a tomato, is pain in various joints. Diarrhea occurs. other symptoms are dehydration, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. tomato flu is usually HFMD. Means, hand and foot mouth disease. This disease is a type of enterovirus spread through the intestines. Tomato flu is throught to be caused by coxsackievirus A-6 and A-16. Chikungunya or dengu can be an after-effect of this disease in children. They can also be infected by a varient of the virus responsible for hand, and foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). Those between the agens of one and fives years are the ones who get red eyes from this virus. However those with Weakened immune system, such as the elderly, are more likely to develope this disease. The news of this infection comes from different times. but it cannot be called a very common disease. Many times of viral infection occur in children. In some cases, it can cause central nervous system problems. Tomato rash usaully occcurs on the tongue, gums insideof the cheeks, palms and soles. Many people have it under the nails as well can the tomato flu rash be confused with monkeypox According to experts, the monkeypox rash is deeper. The spread of the rash on the boady is also different. However , like monkey pox, there is no specfic treatement for Tomato flu. Medicines are given according to symptoms. The guidelines released by the central government on Tuesday for the disease state that infected should be isolated for five to seven days. Others should taught not to hug or touch a child with this disease. cleanlines should be maintained. care should be taken that children do not suck their fingers. It should be than prohibited.
