Dengue is a life-threatening disease. It is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of a female AE DES mosquito. Its bite has an epidemic form and causes an overwhelming situation. Dengue is a viral fever originating in Africa. In tropical countries like Bangladesh, it is a fear. Burma, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, etc.

Egg-laying sites: AE DES mosquitoes lay their eggs on stagnant water in a well, in leaking flower pots, polythene bags, tree holes where rainwater remains, on rotten things, on garbage heaps, etc.

Types and symptoms of dengue fever: Dengue fever is of the two type - classic dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever. The temperature of classic dengue fever rises to 104-105 degrees Celsius. A victim or patient of classic dengue fever experiences back pain, headache, rashes and loss of appetite. There is no bleeding in classic dengue fever.

But dengue hemorrhagic fever is quite serious than the former. Severe disease is probably caused by a double infection of the virus. Other symptoms of DHF include an accumulation of reddish spots on the body. The victim always feels pain, loss of appetite, severe headache throughout the body and vomiting.

WHO Guidelines: According to WHO guidelines, if the patient's level drops to 15,000 or 10,000 µ mm, a transfusion is required. A patient with dengue fever is advised to drink fluids and use intravenous saline until the patient's condition becomes normal. If the drop in fluid volume is too low, the patient goes into shock and may die. Shock syndrome occurs when low blood volume causes less oxygen to go to tissue. The patient's body may feel cold and clumsy, blood pressure may drop, and pulse rate may increase and decrease. 

Prevention: Treating a patient with dengue fever is better prevention. Below are the precautions to be taken in this regard. Containers should be covered to prevent mosquitoes and flies from accessing and laying eggs. Both the air conditioner and the air cooler should be kept clean and tidy so that mosquitoes cannot hide there. Portable jugs and water containers should be placed upside down. Mosquito bites should be controlled by ringing the bell on a limiter or mosquito net, or using mosquito repellents. People should be especially careful both in the morning and in the evening. Dengue specialists predict that one-third of households in Dhaka harbor AE DES mosquitoes. The city corporation should collect monitoring reports from every household and take special action against it. AE DES mosquitoes breed mainly in artificial containers such as clay pots, metal barrels, plastic containers, used car tires and other things in which rainwater remains stagnant.

People of all classes should be alerted and awareness should be created among them to keep their house and home neat and clean Treatment: Medical science has advanced far in the field of treatment. A patient infected with dengue fever needs several tests to diagnose the nature of dengue fever. First aid must be provided. The patient should be encouraged. A serious patient must be hospitalized in a timely manner.

Conclusion: Govt. and the community must be more active in controlling the sources of dengue to avoid its curse.
