American job left for slum women _____---                       When I came to my country after working in America for a few years, I did not know that I would not return to America. I am making women aware by giving useful hygiene and health information during menstruation here. I am originally from Pune. My father was in the Air Force. My brother and I have traveled all over the country because of his job. He lived in almost the assembly states of the country and introduced us to the folk culture everywhere. So now when someone asks me the question of where you are from, I cannot name a state or city, because my childhood memories are connected to all the places, cultures where I have lived. I did my PhD in Computer Science, followed by Dr. in the Research Lab of Education to Home. Worked with Vijay Bhatkar. I learned a lot from them, in the early days we started working on a project on the virtual classroom. In the year 2002, we created a software, through which we can provide easy access to education to remote and underprivileged students. It was during those days that President APJ Abdul Kalam met us. He told me, real happiness is not success or wealth, but happiness can be achieved only by helping others. After some time, I moved to the United States in search of better prospects and started working as a software architect in a company there. But I had a keen interest in working for social upliftment. When my son was born, after that I came to Pune to spend holidays.I went to meet a lot of people and realized that our country has developed to a few people. There are similar difficulties for the rest, not much has changed for them. At the same time, I heard of an incident in a small town of Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh, where a 42-year-old woman died due to using a blouse as a sanitary pad. It was shocking to me, I felt that something should be done. I went to many slums, villages and talked to women. I was surprised that the awareness about sanitary pads was negligible, but due to various stereotypes, it was made taboo. Many women cited the reason for not using it as being expensive. After walking and talking for several days, I thought about preparing such a sanitary pad. Whatever is biogradible, that is, it is easily destroyed without damaging the environment. After this, I quit my job in America on the phone, and started an NGO.The aim is to work for women's empowerment, health and hygiene during menstruation, gender equality and inclusive development. I talked to Arunachalam Muruganatham of Chennai, popularly known as Padman, to get a cheap sanitary pad. After listening to me he promised to give me two sanitary pad units. Right now I am distributing sanitary pads from my savings and distributing them among the women and girls of Slum. I will install the unit as soon as I get it, in which only women living in the slums of Pune will do it. In this way, along with their employment, other women will also get sanitary pads at cheaper rates.
