The science of mantras

The subtle sonic patterns in mantra jaap generate vibrations which can various barriers and empower the tissues. The Vedic teachings talk about the ‘Nanahata Nada’ which is the sound that one can hear when all the cluttering sound of nearby environment is eliminated from our body and surroundings. It is believed that sages in ancient India were able to achieve supernatural power when they harnessed certain vibrations and they concentrated on it, in a peaceful environment. They meditated in forests or mountains to improve their concentration power and achieved oneness with the environment. Historical excavations of Indus valley civilization find proof of the agnihotra yagna that was conducted to purify the environment as described in the Rigveda. Such methods helped in healing diseases and complexities. During the recitation, the brain underwent certain changes which altered the ionic microenvironment of the neuron and decreased the inhibition of GABA neurotransmission. Impact on living creatures Research on the effect of mantra on humans and plants have been conducted globally, where one report finds a positive impact on plant growth. During the stage of seeding the plants exposed to such sounds grew more and without any infections as compared to the plants that were not exposed to it. In another study, water crystals were exposed to the sounds and these crystals were able to form predefined patterns. In Sanskrit, mantras have been mentioned in Vedic texts as the most powerful vibrations, which can have a strong impact on body tissues, subconscious mind and memories. It created positive effects on the surrounding waves and helped the conscious mind to tune in with the cosmic energies. If chanted multiple times, it was able to activate the energy centres or chakras of the body. The chakras are like distribution channels and unregulated flow of signals across the chakras results in medical problems like nerve disorders and epilepsy, which can be resolved by inducing vibrations of mantras into the body and restoring certain basal frequencies from the mantras. Chanting and medical cures In epilepsy, the increase in the number of free radicals in brain interferes with related functions, and the mitochondrial dysfunctions create neuronal degeneration. The study on epileptic seizure finds the imbalance between the inhibitory processes and excitatory processes, where the regular chanting of the mantras could generate vibrations that could purify the energies inside the body. It stimulates body chakras and subtle energies. The universe is like the ocean of such waves. Even the thoughts and sentiments generate waves which can change our life paths. The power generated by the mantra can reach the cosmic centres and attract the supernatural currents in a proportionate amount. The ultimate goal of all living being on the earth is to attain oneness with the supreme consciousness. The sound-like AUM is also called Pranava, which means, it has attained the goal of life. Aum induces natural vibrations and helps the body to synchronize with the environment. Such sounds have a therapeutic impact on body tissues and systems.
