Reasons why you should add a DVD player to your auto audio system
When choosing your next auto audio system, you may want to check out systems that include additional entertainment features such as games and DVD players. It may sound a bit simplistic to some, but if you've ever been cross country with kids, you know what I mean when I say it's worth the investment to get it installed and installed properly.
Many people will debate the wisdom of these devices and I will tell you in all honesty that I 100% feel it is much safer than trying to deal with disgruntled children in the back literally fighting for your attention. If you want to talk about distractions, I can think of a few distractions that will beat this when driving on holiday roads and adverse weather conditions. The truth is, anything that keeps the kids quiet for two hours while they drink has my vote for gadget or gadget of the year.
I seriously recommend having the system installed as it will reduce not only driver distraction but also the driver's exposure to lights and sounds. If you have a gaming system, DVD player and headphones for both, I'm sure you'll be driving along blissfully listening to your mum's music while the kids in the back take turns playing games and watching DVDs. In fact, the most serious refereeing you're likely to need is who's turn it is and how long it will take.
Now I feel it is very important to point out that this is not the only benefit of installing an entertainment system for children traveling with you. Another very real benefit is the fact that you'll also find yourself hearing less and less of the usual "are we there yet" and other generally unsatisfied questions from behind the scenes. I also love the fact that kids can often fall asleep to a DVD they've watched dozens of times, giving them a few more minutes of blissful silence as they snooze.
Another unexpected benefit I've found with my kids and the DVD built into the auto sound system is that my kids are less likely to ask to stop pottying. I always assumed that some of the frequent bathroom stops were related to boredom, and now I'm pretty sure my assumptions were correct. Another great thing mom does to keep things going smoothly is buy a new DVD right before a long trip. In addition to a new DVD that the little ones will not get tired of yet, I pull out a DVD that may have been recently forgotten and not watched as often. This keeps the kids very happy and quiet while mom can focus on the road ahead and make sure everyone is happy and safe on the road.
Just remember that you should never rely on the scenery or the thrill of travel to keep young children happy and occupied on long journeys. One can expect endless questions and chatter to alleviate the boredom. To avoid these types of situations, you're going to need more than happy music playing on the radio, and really, how many times can you listen to "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" during a 12-hour road trip? Do yourself a favor by choosing a really great auto sound system and make the necessary investment to add a really nice DVD player to the mix. Trust me, I'm the queen of cheap when it comes to trying to save money, and I swear if you have kids, it's an investment worth its weight in gold.
