More recently, the practice has developed in high schools and communities around the United States. Most people are looking for or learning Chinese right now. This can be a nice change of place, but it can also be a problem. This is especially true of those who know little about Chinese culture, history, and current affairs.
In China, they no longer use Chinese characters that match Chinese history. For some reason, the Chinese Communist Party decided to change the Chinese language and thus changed the vehicle for written communication.
Traditional Chinese characters appeared naturally from time to time as pictures or small drawings. In contrast, the simplified Chinese created by the Chinese Communist Party have watered so many traditional characters that they are no longer based on very old traditions.
Here is an example. The traditional Chinese word for ‘love’ contains the image of the heart in it. This is logical because love is closely related to the heart. Not so with Simplified Chinese. There is no heart in the word ‘love’ in simplified Chinese. One may ponder how you would like without the heart.
As this example illustrates, in many ways the Chinese Communist Party has taken away the heart of all languages, distorted and transformed it into a reduced form of its former way. In Taiwan, however, they still use traditional characters.
So if your community or children's school plans to teach Chinese, you may want to make sure that you get a variety of cultures. It fully integrates the rich history of China and the Chinese people. In contrast, those who teach our children simplified Chinese originated in China and, unfortunately, will be conveying the principles and ideas of the Chinese Communist Party. Whether they did it intentionally or not because of their upbringing, the outcome is the same. Only you can decide if you want the influence of the Chinese Communist Party to be given to your children.
Be sure to emphasize that our children are taught native Chinese and not a simplified version. In this way, the richness of the traditional Chinese culture can be enjoyed and fully realized. It will provide a solid basis for understanding ancient Chinese culture.
