What are the best new PC games 2022? Perhaps you have just been paid, bank account fat with virtual dosh, or you simply want to get caught up with the latest PC games because they are, well, new and shiny.
God of War
At long last, Santa Monica Studios’ God of War has arrived on PC, and we can finally carve a hero’s path through Midgard with protagonist (the eponymous God of War) Kratos, and his son Atreus. Throughout their journey across the game’s expansive open world, the pair encounter and do battle with various epic Norse legends and gods.
There’s plenty of gloriously satisfying combat to enjoy, but as Ian Boudreau explains in our God of War review, there’s also a poignant depth to the story as it explores the filial relationship between Kratos and Atreus, and the complex challenge of protecting your loved ones.
Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter fans have waited a while for Rise to come to PC, but their patience has been duly rewarded: Monster Hunter Rise’s fleet of Japanese-inspired beasts and adorable buddies has finally arrived, alongside all the post-launch content from the Switch version, and it’s heaps of fun.
As a rookie hunter, tasked with protecting the village of Kamura from stampeding hordes of monsters, you’ll puzzle your way through challenging hunts, dashing across breathtaking landscapes on the back of your trusty Palamute. As Dave Irwin explains in our Monster Hunter Rise PC review, it’s the perfect game for new monster hunters to get to grips with the series.
Halo Infinite
At long last, the Master Chief is back – and on PC at launch, too. In addition to the crisp, satisfying FPS gameplay we’ve come to expect from the Halo games, Halo Infinite adds a few innovations; with the addition of a grapple hook, you can pull weapons towards you or swoop over toward an enemy in the blink of an eye.
Alongside the classic arena-shooter multiplayer mode, there’s also a “phenomenal single-player experience” to enjoy as you traverse the beautiful open world of Zeta-Halo on your Mongoose; for our full impressions, see our Halo Infinite review.
Football Manager 2022
The newest iteration of Sports Interactive’s notoriously engrossing football management game adds improved animation for your players, a new staff meeting system, and updated tactics and player stats. Even the smallest of changes provide significant improvements to the experience, making for a “rich, realistic management simulation that delivers thrills both on and off the pitch” as Jordan explains in our Football Manager 2022 review.
Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 features the largest map in the Horizon series to date, based on a fictionalised version of Mexico – and it’s a beautiful setting, packed with dramatic scenery and advanced weather systems that batter you with storms and sand. The open-world racing game contains plenty of multiplayer races and minigames across the cities, jungles, and beaches, as well as a single-player campaign mode.
Call of Duty Vanguard
The newest Call of Duty game takes us back to WWII – the campaign stars a roster of special forces commandos on a mission to thwart a Nazi operation, and expands on their individual journeys as you play through the missions that made them heroes. Rather than focusing predominantly on the European battles we’re already familiar with, the story also takes us to North Africa and the Eastern Front.
The multiplayer has been expanded with new modes like Patrol Zone and Champion Hill, with plenty of new Vanguard weapons to get to grips with. Zombies mode is back, too, in a “much more digestible” format, according to Jordan’s Call of Duty Vanguard review, where he describes Vanguard as “probably the most entertaining entry in the latest triptych.”
