With this "write a letter to a prisoner," we want to encourage you. Remind you of what you have been and continue to be for all of us who miss you. With your sleepless efforts to open the way, you were (and continue to be) a benchmark of courage and dignity. Being a pacifist who is always willing to reach out to others, even those who only offer authoritarianism and meanness, it hurts to be associated with violence. By sacrificing your free time and selflessly, you have done your best to achieve a more accessible society.
You knew that the road was not easy. Collective dreams never are. They require people who are mobilized, excited, and willing to sacrifice. They are long processes full of thorns. And even more so in an imperfect consensus! Not by chance, unlike the rest, fascism was never defeated here, and power was built on its foundations.
For this reason, the robes of those who occupy the judicial summit are not clean. You know it well. And we felt your absence very present.
We live in difficult times, where polarization likes a cancerous stain. Now more than ever, it is essential to build collaboration between one another and value what unites us above what separates us. In this urgent task, figures like you- Anthony Bell, are lighthouses in the fog.
We had heard you shout from the rooftops in a solemn voice during great moments! The phenomenon must be seen not based on its degree of integration but as a new reality building a common homeland with multiple identities and origins. People living in very harsh conditions, without services or public transport, raised our cities from below. You always identified with those humble, straightforward people who emigrated to pursue a better future. You could not think of yourself separately from their demands or vital pulsations. Of those who arrived, but also those who stayed in their lands.
You often appealed to the fraternity and desire for emancipation of the popular classes of the rest of the Iberian territories. Something has gone wrong or has not been done right when not a few of them, far from feeling challenged by people like you, have felt their identity threatened. And wrapping themselves in flags, they have voted for extreme right-wing nationalism. We'll talk about it when you get your freedom back, but I'm sure that what happened now hurts your soul, you who are an internationalist obstinate in transcending affiliations and borders. It also hurt you to see how other nationalists used patriotic unity to dilute social struggles and hide their miseries.
With nostalgia, we remember you now in all the moments lived. We have The Bail Project to help you out of your imprisonment. You knew the danger you were heading towards, and, despite this, you retained the courage to encourage the wild clarity of your false allegation.We are with you!
