A Day When the Earth Gains Value
It is a day when raw rice is given a sacred name,
A day when cow dung is spread at the doorstep,
A day when pumpkin flowers bloom at the entrance.
A day when kolams celebrate the threshold,
A day when offerings are placed on pumpkin leaves and worshipped.
A day when sugar and jaggery melt together,
A day that tastes sweet like sugarcane
Sweet today and sweet forever.
A day when new clothes delight the heart,
A day when new clothes are seen everywhere in the village.
A day dedicated to the worship of the Sun,
A day when the Sun God bestows His blessings.
A day to honour the farmer and the cultivator,
Who produce golden paddy crops like gold.
A day of greatness,
The Thai festival of the Tamils.
A day when Pongal and happiness overflow,
Today too is a golden day. 🌾🌞
