We all know people who go to local health stores like GNC or High Health for vitamins. They often go to these places because they hear or know that they can get a better dose of vitamins from a local drug store or supermarket. While this is not a bad idea, most of the vitamins sold in health stores come in large quantities for each pill or capsule. Sometimes it's just a person's belief that a lot is better, but they often buy large quantities of these vitamins from local retailers to recommend them. Long ago, the US government developed guidelines for proper levels of vitamins and minerals that people should take and not take in large quantities to help prevent overdose. Many people think that these tested levels are too low, and believe that it is better to take more food than recommended. The question is, is it safe to do so? Of course, taking vitamin and mineral supplements is a good idea, but as always, it is still recommended that you get your vitamins and minerals from complete sources of food. It is not a good idea to think that unhealthy, unhealthy foods can be made with a handful of vitamins and mineral supplements. While it is true that it is difficult to get all the vitamins and minerals you need every day just by eating, vitamin and mineral supplements are designed to fill in the blanks, not to replace them completely. When the Food and Nutrition Board of the Academy of Sciences sets the recommended daily allowances for each vitamin and mineral, it is based on research that determines how many vitamins and minerals our body needs and we How much can you get in moderation from food? It was decided that it was safe to take extra vitamins and minerals within the recommended guidelines. It is important to take vitamins and minerals as they are necessary for the normal functioning of the body as well as to help fight diseases and treat many ailments. Some people believe that they can prevent cancer, prevent aging, reduce arthritis, and help many other vitamin supplements. Billions of dollars are spent on vitamins and minerals that should be used in large quantities in the belief that they can cure many of their ailments. There are many people who think that RDAs should be increased because they think that the current recommended doses are too low. Recently, there has been an increase in RDAs for certain vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C. However, the Food and Drug Administration is not keen on increasing RDAs because there are studies showing that overdosing is not a good idea. In fact, taking too many vitamins and minerals can lead to toxic and mineral imbalances. For example, taking more than 1000 mg of vitamin E increases the risk of bleeding. It has long been believed that high doses of vitamin C can cure colds and prevent cancer. However, the FDA believes that too much vitamin C can cause diarrhea. There are also studies that show that if you take high doses of antioxidants during cancer treatment, you will be nurturing cancer cells, making them more resistant to chemotherapy. The best way to get vitamin and mineral supplements is to stay within the proper diet. This means you don't need the many "mega-size" pills that are usually sold in healthcare stores. These health stores sell large quantities of vitamins that contain good quality, mild, acceptable vitamins and minerals. Also, keep in mind that when a salesperson tries to sell you a large number of vitamin pills, they do so because those vitamins are usually more expensive and take a higher commission. Most people who work in these health stores do not have a degree or certification in any field of nutrition so it is not wise to decide which vitamins or minerals you need. If you think you may need more vitamins or minerals, the best way is to consult your doctor. Your doctor can review the results of your blood work and determine if you need more or less vitamins or minerals.
