Suicide Or Murder..

  • The girl, Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu, 13, daughter of N. Tomchou Singh of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai, Imphal-West, Manipur, India was found dead by hanging from her bed (twin bed) in her hostel on 18 of July 2019. Her father was informed by the school authority at about 5 in the morning and reached at the school at 6:15 am.
  • It is said that 36 students were staying at that hostel including Babysana under a warden named Jinty.
  • Father of Babysana stated in a press conference. “The police personal at the spot earlier did not allow me from entering at the place where my daughter reportedly died by hanging even though I introduced myself and pleaded to the police officials as her father and I presume the incident is a definite case of murder”.
  • “When I was not allowed to enter and see my daughter despite making desperate efforts, I along with my wife turned back for a while,” Tomchou lamented.
  • After some hours, he forcibly entered the spot where Babysana was reportedly hanged and noticed that she was hanged at her boarding bed, he said. “The bed in the hostel is a twin bed and she was hanged by putting the knot at the rim of the upper bed. There was a length of about only 6 inches from the knot and neck of Babysana, and her feet was full of dirt,” he stated.
  • On the other hand, Landhoni had stated earlier that as per daily routine students were made sleep after they wash clean.

He said, Babysana was a normal child and did not have any problem at home. “The mysterious death of Babysana can be presumed only as a definite case of murder,” he added.

Autopsy was conducted for the second time today at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JINIMS), Porompat.

As a part of procedure, the re-autopsy was done in front of executive magistrate with full video coverage along with a medical expert from the side of ‘Joint Action Committee against the mysterious death of N. Babysana Chanu.’

The first autopsy was done at Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) morgue on July 18. Terming the first reports as unsatisfactory, the JAC had demand for another autopsy for which the approval was given by the government.

While the Police as per their findings, verbally told the JAC members that the cause of death is due to hanging, the Joint Students’ Coordination Committee (JSCC) claimed that Babysana died after going through some pressure.

It may be mentioned that Babysana was found hanging at the hostel dormitory of Standart Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur. The joint action committee was formed following the mysterious death of the 13 years old girl.
