Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows in Netflix history. But what's it that makes this series such a mega hit? Humor
It's not a comedy, but Stranger Effects has no problem making its followership laugh. Occasionally it's a moment of ridiculous discrepancy, like when Suzie insists that she and Dustin sing a duet together, indeed though Dustin and his musketeers are in a hopeless and tense situation. Will's over enthusiastic attempts to get his musketeers to play Dungeons & Dragons with him in season 3.

There's tremendous heart, compassion, and trust in these group dynamics. There is also a great deal of humor, as the characters' closeness means they're unafraid to make fun of one another. They may be battling monsters from the Upside Down, but what grounds the show is the relatable and authentic nature of the group's close-knit bonds.
Emotional Rollercoaster
Stranger Effects is an emotional rollercoaster, and fan can not get enough of the addicting lift. The deaths of supporting characters like Barb, Bob, and Alexei have left fans devastated and calling for justice on social media. Eleven's immolation in the season 1 home stretch and Hopper's immolation in the season 3 home stretch inspired numerous emotional responses from fans. There are plenitudes of uplifting moments as well, like when Eleven returns to Hawkins and reunites with Mike and the others in the alternate season.
Character Development
A good story requires character development, which Stranger Effects has in cornucopia. Steve Harrington is one of the stylish exemplifications as he goes from being a stereotypically entitled high academy jock to getting a probative, defensive, and concerned for Dustin and his musketeers. This development has made fans deeply invested in Steve. Nancy Wheeler is another character who has experienced rich character development. She begins as a high academy girl hopeless to fit in and gain her peers' blessing, but she grows into a take charge, perceptive youthful woman who investigates and uncovers the biggest mystification and conspiracies in Hawkins.
