Steven Peter Devereux Smith( born 2 June 1989) is the complete name of Smithy, introduced himself in the cricket world as a leg spinner. He was among the members of the Australian u19 team at the 2008 under -19 world cup which was held in Malaysia. He took seven wickets in 4 matches and scored 114 runs. During 2009-10 he brought improvement in his batting. He had a batting average of over 50 in 13 first-class matches, however, his bowling average was over the fifties which was not acceptable at all, but he started to improve his bowling. His bowling steadily improving following some praise from Shane Warne. His bowling action was compared with Shane Warne as well.
(Debut in International Cricket) Steven Smith made his international cricket debut as a leg spinner, who could cat at number 6-7, in a twnety20 International match playing against Pakistan at MCG in February 2010. The same month, he made debut in one-Day international against West Indies also at MCG, playing in the last match of series. His shining career started in style when his luck brought him to Icc twenty20 world cup 2010 held in West Indies. He performed well with the ball showing some glimpse for Australia, but Australia finished runners up to England. Smith took 11 wickets with an average of 14 in the whole tournament. Smith made his test debut at Lords in July 2010 against Pakistan, he played both of the matches of series which was played in England. In the 2010 -11 Ashes series Smith had a role more as a batsman rather than a bowler. Over time he improved his batting, showing some class to shuffle across the wickets to off stumps and hit the ball all around the ground. During Ashes 2013 -14 he appeared as a calm and pure batsman. He made his maiden test century against England in the 3rd match of Ashes Series in home soil at Perth. He showed his amazing batting skills during that series and Australia wrapped up that series by winning 5-0. In 2014 he became the best test batsman where he scores more than 1000 runs. He thrashes the Indian bowling line with class. (2015 to 2018 Australian Captaincy) After the retirement of Michael Clarke, Steven Smith appoint as a full-time captain of the Australian test team.
In Smith's captaincy In test matches, Australia won 18 out of 34 matches, 10 lost and 6 drawn, win % 52.94. In odi he captained the Australian team in 51matches, 25 won, lost 24 and win %52.22. In t20, in his Captaincy Australian team played 8matches, won 4 and 4 lost.
Then suddenly his fate took him to the day which he could never forget in his life.He was captured with his teammate player David Warner in ball tempering. He was banned from international cricket for 1 year and lost his Captaincy from all formats as well. He apologized in front of the whole media from his Nation for committing that mistake. Then after one year he returned to the team and participated in world cup 2019.
