Shooting Stars (when you are serious about astronomy)

If you are a fan of astronomy like most of us, you can recall that one incident in childhood that began with this fascinating pastime. This was probably the first time you watched a telescope. But for many of us, it was the first time we saw a fiery rain in the sky that we eventually came to know as meteoroid rain.

 

By the time you see the first one, it is easy to remember the movie "war of the worlds" or another beautiful image of aliens entering our universe in large numbers to take over the planet. But with some guidance and an explanation of what was happening, we finally found that these showers were definitely not a threat to any kind of attack. For the most part, meteoroid showers are harmless, natural and very fun to watch.

 

So what are these strange lights in the sky? Are they aliens attacking Mars? Are the comets coming to start the next snowstorm? Or maybe asteroids burn as they enter the earth's atmosphere. The answer to the above questions is no to the first and “yes and no” to the other two.

 

A meteoroid is actually a small piece of space debris, usually dust or small rocks from a comet or cracked atmosphere, and eventually falls to the ground toward the earth. We say “on the earth” because the lights you see are the collisions of the atmosphere, burning those tiny spheres of space and creating a spectacular show for all of us as they do. The most exciting time to witness is when a meteoroid breaks or explodes as it enters. The exploding meteoroid is called blades.

 

There are some interesting details about the life of a meteoroid that makes the view of shooting stars very interesting. To be seen, a meteoroid only needs a weight of as little as half a million grams. But what makes them look so amazing is the speed at which they reach the space. Before firing, the meteoroid will reach between 11 and 74 miles per second, which is 100 times faster than a running bullet.

 

We often think of seeing a shooting star as a rare event and associating it with superstition (hence, we wish a lucky star). But there are actually thousands of them every year, so it is not uncommon to see them. In fact, scientists tell us that more than 200,000 tons of matter enters the atmosphere each year and burns as it enters.

 

Comets are a major source of meteoroids due to the nature of those long tails. Large amounts of dust, snow, and other debris are trapped by the tail of a comet as it approaches the sun. Then, as the comet took off from the sun in its orbit, tons of matter were thrown into space to disperse. As the Earth moves in its orbit around the sun, it often falls among the clouds of this discarded story that becomes one of the most famous “meteor showers” ​​of observations.

 

These shooting stars are so easy for astronomers to predict that you can enter space to see happiness at the right time of the night and look at the perfect location of the night sky. Usually a star magazine or site will give you a general time and place to get ready to look when meteoroids start to fall.

 

Now remember, this is a natural phenomenon, so it may not be clear from the timeline. Also note that there is a marking system where meteoroid rain will occur based on what the star is behind it.
